Who cares about Care Homes?

Care Homes have had a rough ride for a long time, not least due to the pandemic which reared its ugly head early in 2020. The measures implemented to deal with this were questionable, and remain so to this day. What was once supposed to be a safe haven was suddenly like a prison. Relatives were shut out, loved ones were shut in and no one knew how long it would last.

The fallout from this, at the risk of being understated, was horrendous. so much so that families found themselves on social media, in groups, on television and in newspapers. They needed answers, they needed support but, it seemed, the more they pushed the worse it got. It was so bad there is now a proposal, for a new Law, going through the Scottish Parliament (with similar situations in the rest of the UK).

I am a Care Home manager, I've struggled to make sense of it all over the last 2 years and tried to be supportive to those feeling distress. I realised recently that there were no podcasts currently dealing with the subject so I created The Care Home Podcast to invite everyone to tell their story, to offer advice and hope and see if we can create a community of knowledge and understanding and find ways of supporting each other. And to have a good laugh along the way, god knows there has been very little to laugh about it's been exhausting for everyone.

So, if you have an interest in Care Homes in any way, join us and let's see if we can make some sense of it. A weekly podcast where you can email me and send me questions, concerns, comments, stories, and everything in between. Eventually, I'll be hoping to do live shows with phone-ins, Interviews, having guest hosts but for now, just sit back and listen to my inexperienced tones ( I promise I'll get better) and send me your thoughts.
