About Ben

Ben Walker teaches 7th-grade science in Anchorage, Alaska, at Romig Middle School. The yearlong core class encompasses the nature of science, taxonomy, cells, forces and motion, energy and energy use, electromagnetic waves, sound, light, electricity and magnetism and has an overarching theme of "Our Changing World." For many students in the Anchorage School District, 7th grade is the first time they have a daily science class. With this in mind, Ben strives to not only teach the required content, but also help students make relevant connections to their own lives and the world around them.

In addition to being a 2023 Global Learning Fellow, Ben is the 2018 Alaska State Teacher of the Year, a 2020 Lindbland National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellow traveling to Antarctica, the 2013 Alaska Awardee for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), and the 2019 National Awardee for the NSTA Shell Excellence in Science Teaching Award.

Ben firmly believes that all students deserve to have learn through a global lens and that science is inherently taught globally as Earth is a system and everything in science is connected.
