"Together, we will make Simon Fraser great again, Rendre Simon Fraser à nouveau grand"
Pierre Polievre
Leader of the Official Opposition of Canada, Leader @ Conservative
This is what it means to have a common-sense government. The Retrospection Party is the definition of hope in our education system. Let's clean up the mess that the pandemic has left upon us.
O U R P L A T F O R M
Investing for today, investing for tomorrow.
Let's spend and utilize our school's budget on investments that can help our students succeed in their academic studies. from educational resources to professional development, extracurricular opportunities, and a commitment towards student inclusivity and support.
Let's invest toward our future changemakers. Everyone has a potential to make positive change, let's unleash it.
Providing Special Education
The pacing is quick. You need to get through units and assignments at a rapid pace. Many people find it hard to keep up, and some fall behind in understanding the course material. Many schools across the Calgary Board of Education have programs that provide special education through programs such as Bridges, ALP, and a variety of others that support complex learning needs.
We want to invest in hiring additional support staff that can provide additional one-on-one support for students during class time and lunch hour to ensure that students catch up.
Revamping the Library
Students rarely use the in-school library, unless you're part of the younger grades and you're being directed to by your teacher. This is likely due to lack of variety in books, and not having a librarian to tend to the students most of the time.
Pre-COVID, the library was open most of the day, including lunch, where students could explore and study throughout the day. We vow to boost the engagement rate within the library by investing into new books, including course textbooks, investing into e-books, and giving students the ability to visit, and self-checkout a book during lunch hour.
Providing First Aid Training
We want our students to be ready to take action when someone is in distress without relying on others. We want to integrate basic first aid and basic life support into the P.E curriculum, or as an option course that students can partake in.
We'll go over critical life-saving techniques and concepts such as CPR / chest compressions, the heimlich maneuver, how to control bleeding, and other life-saving skills that should be taught to everyone.
More Sustainable
Let's push for sustainability and renewable energy. Solar panels can save 1,500 dollars worth of electrical bills each year, so perhaps we should invest towards that.
Additionally, we want to support the use of composting, and other forms of sustainable waste management. We want to collect a waste audits to better understand the waste our school is producing, and to begin composting organic matter, and explore ways of preventing paper waste within our schools.
