Introduction
The Calvin Party is one of the 7 major corporations under the Calvin Industries name. The Calvin Party serves as an advocate and representative for Calvin Industries Corporation, and a political party that has devoted itselves to advocating for public education.
Originating as just a joke, they've grown to begin to engage in student council events and have collaborated amongst teachers, students, and real-world government officials to decide on policies that best reflect amongst the population of the City of Calgary. They've actively participated in municipal events to showcase their focus in climate change, renewable energy, issues in our education system, issues revolving public healthcare, and various others. We've evolved to focus on student-wellbeing to address the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since then, The Calvin Party has completed a few of its major initives, a few of them including:
Our Principles
As a party, we stand united on the following principles that guide our vision for a stronger Alberta:
➢ A strong civil society made up of independent people, solid families, and unofficial organizations.
➢ Freedom of expression, worship, and assembly without restrictions from the government or businesses on traditional or social media.
➢ Ensure that families be shielded from government intrusion and affirm the family as the foundation of society and the channel for citizens to transmit their values and beliefs.
➢ Economic freedom in a market economy, which supports the right to property ownership, enjoyment, and exchange as well as the development of wealth through free entrepreneurship.
Collaborated among real-world teachers, students and government officials to gain a more broad perspective on current events happening in our society.
Actively worked alongside real-world researchers at the University of Calgary and assisted in funding towards innovative projects in public health with the C.H.O
Traveled to more remote regions of Canada to gain a broader perspective of issues in under represented communities in rural regions of the nation.
Guided and mentored our younger generations towards positive politics, and promoted the importance of voting, alongside promoting the issues of climate change.
Worked and partnered with other government parties including the Kool Aid Party of Canada, Libertarian Party of Canada, and the Green Party of Alberta to discuss real-world issues; primarily climate change and the current state of glaciers.
➢ Low taxation and limited government will promote economic progress while allowing Albertans to enjoy the results of their own labour.
➢ Keeping people secure is one of the main duties of the government.
➢ Safeguard and uphold Alberta's ownership rights to utilise its natural resources for the good of Albertans to preserve our planet for generations to come.
➢ Ensuring everyone; no matter their background, race, identity, etc has an equal opportunity to thrive and define their own paths of success.
Since 2021, we've never been afraid to voice our opinions and beliefs. We've advocated for our education and advocated for change, and we've been the face of Simon Fraser since. We've worked alongside government officials, school boards, and students to better understand what is needed to be done.
We're the public of Calvin Industries and our morals and beliefs.
Amid an increasing concern for public safety, students are encountering greater difficulties in pursuing education within a secure learning environment. As we've navigated through periods of pandemics and enduring challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the unsettling transitions that have taken a toll on the mental well-being of our students, we are taking a stand to champion the cause of our students and their genuine needs. The reality is that there is a shortage of individuals who genuinely care.
Since then, The Calvin Party has expanded both in terms of its membership and intellectual capacity. We are gaining a deeper understanding of the actual state of our world and grappling with the emerging issues that pose obstacles to our path to success. At The Calvin Party, we are committed to ensuring inclusive representation for all, irrespective of their backgrounds. Furthermore, we are dedicated to providing everyone with the necessary support to ensure equitable opportunities and resources for flourishing in life. Our goal is to cultivate an enriching learning environment where our students can truly thrive, tailored to their unique needs.
Mission #1
Reform our public education system to better support our youth
Our mission has always been to spark positive change within our school communities. We're doing our part to help modernize our education system to help support our changemakers and help support our students no matter what they aspire to do, and what they aspire to accomplish.
As a party, we're running on behalf of Simon Fraser Junior High. We're working with students and staff to understand and gain a grasp of some of the biggest issues in our school threatening student learning, and how we can come up with effective solutions to address them. From addressing the washroom problems to how we can improve our option courses, we're representing our students and their needs and wants to improve our school for the present, and the future students of Simon Fraser.
Mission #2
Support and encourage positive politics
The outcomes of elections have drastic impacts on everyone, no matter who they are and where they come from. We understand how politics are involved in everything in our day-to-day lives. We're lucky to live in a democratic society where people are able to elect and vote for their leaders based on their own personal values and beliefs. Voting is a civil right, so why not take advantage of it?
Our mission at The Calvin Party is to educate our younger generations who may not be eligible to vote on the impacts of politics and governments, and how they play a role in our day-to-day lives. We want more people to vote; we're seeing why it's important to vote. In a world where decisions made within the halls of power reverberate through communities, economies, and cultures, our commitment to education stands as a beacon of enlightenment. We're finding new ways to work with schools to incorporate programs to help boost our cause; students votes, etc.
Mission #3
Protect the wonder of our world so many more can witness its wonders.
One of our biggest values at The Calvin Party is our planet. We are devoting ourselves to protecting the wonders of our planet, because truth is, very few people are. With the growing threat of climate change, people are losing their lives and billions of dollars worth of property all thanks to us.
We've collaborated with The City of Calgary to discuss plans to implementing more solar panels in schools across YYC. We worked with The City of Calgary to build solar panels on Highwood's Elementary School, which became the FIRST Calgary Board of Education school to have solar panels. We're working with various non-profit organizations such as the RISE project to seek more funding towards sustainable energy and how we can use the applications to create more sustainable schools.
Mission #4
To support our future changemakers, and support our younger generations.
We each have our own personal-defined definitions of success. That may not mean graduating from university, earning a good degree, and finding a good-paying job. It may mean being able to travel the world, even if that means you're a high-school dropout.
No matter how you perceive success, we want to be able to help and support your goals and aspirations. We want to provide you with the proper resources and education for you to live your life-long dream.
But behind every successful person is a good education. We're ready to equip you with the knowledge and resources you need to thrive in the real-world. We're investing in your futures because we truly believe each of our students has the ability to spark positive change for their communities.
Jordan Wilkie
