We've Herd Them All
Frequently Asked Questions (aka the stuff we get asked a lot while holding a chicken or hauling a tray of cookies)
1. Where are you located?
(And do I have to drive past three cornfields to get there?)
We’re tucked away in beautiful Granger Township, Ohio, Our farm stand is located on Woodling Way, just south of the Remsen Rd./Woodling way intersection. You may pass a few cornfields, but we promise it’s worth the drive. The goats think so, anyway.
2. What are your farm stand hours?
(And what if I just want to swing by for a treat at 10pm?)
Our stand is open seasonally and sporadically—like a pop-up shop with dirt under its nails. We’re not open just yet, but we’re working hard behind the scenes (and in the weeds) to get everything ready. We’ll update as soon as we’re officially open for the season! Once we are, we’ll post open hours weekly on social media, or you can always shoot us a message if you're in the area. Porch pickups for orders are also a go—we just coordinate a time that works for both of us.
3. What kinds of things do you sell?
(Is it just eggs and veggies… or are we talking cookies too?)
A little bit of everything! Baked goods from Cayla’s Confections, produce fresh from the garden, handmade goodies, farm-fresh eggs (when the hens cooperate), and now even freeze-dried treats from our family’s biz, Boswell’s Beanery and Blends. We’ll also be carrying delicious pickles and sauerkraut from The Big Dill Pickle Co.—because what’s a farm stand without a little crunch and tang? Oh, and if I can grow it or bake it, it may just end up at the stand too!
4. How do I place an order for baked goods?
(And how much advance notice do you need to make something magical?)
Head to the “Order” page on the Cayla’s Confections section of the site! I try to make it super easy (even though I’m not exactly tech-savvy… so bless you for your patience). I’ll follow up once I get your form to confirm the details. I love to have at least two-weeks notice, to schedule, plan, and design your treats.
5. Do you take custom orders?
(Like “can you make a cake shaped like a goat?” kind of custom?)
Absolutely! Cakes, cookies, trifles—you name it, I’ll try it. If you’ve got inspo pics or a wild idea, send them my way. I thrive on creative chaos and buttercream.
6. Can we come see the animals?
(Are the goats accepting visitors this week?)
We love sharing our animals with the community—but since we’re a real working farm with kiddos and goats that occasionally escape just for fun, visits are by appointment or during events. Keep an eye out for open farm days and pop-up happenings!
7. Is your farm open to the public?
(Can I just show up and start petting chickens?)
Kinda-sorta! The farm stand is open to everyone when posted, but the rest of the farm is still home and a work-in-progress. Someday we hope to host more events and tours, but for now we keep it low-key and cozy.
8. Do you offer farm tours or host events?
(Weddings, barn dances, goat yoga, that kind of thing?)
It’s part of our big dream! The barn is on its way to being restored into a venue. Someday: barn dances, weddings, goat socials. For now, we’re dipping our toes in with community events here and there. Stay tuned!
9. Are you organic or all-natural?
(What’s the deal with your growing practices?)
We’re not certified organic (paperwork, yikes), but we grow as naturally as we can. No synthetic fertilizers or pesticides here—just compost, elbow grease, and a lot of trial and error. Our animals are well-loved and fed the good stuff, too. We get all our animal feed locally from L.E. Sommer in Kidron, Ohio—it’s made with locally grown ingredients and processed right down there at their feed mill. Supporting local and feeding well? That’s a win-win in our book (and the animals seem to agree).
10. Do you partner with other local businesses?
(Can my small biz products be part of your farm stand?)
Yes! We love showcasing local talent and small-batch magic. If you're interested in having your goods at our stand, reach out—we’re all about community and collaboration.
11. What forms of payment do you accept?
(Asking for a friend with a wallet full of change.)
Cash, Venmo, PayPal, and good ol’ fashioned bartering if you bring something cool (just kidding… kind of). No card reader at the stand yet, so plan ahead if you're coming by!
12. Are you hiring or accepting volunteers?
(Because I’d love to hang out with goats and get paid in cookies.)
We’re not hiring yet, but we’re always open to help! Especially if you like pulling weeds, playing with goats, or taste-testing cookies. Shoot us a message if you want to get involved!
13. How can I stay in the loop with farm happenings?
(Do you have a newsletter, or do I just follow the goat gossip?)
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram—The Bauman Barn and Cayla’s Confections both have their own pages. I try to post regularly, whether it’s a goat escape story, new treat release, or just a peek at our garden chaos. You can also join our email list for seasonal updates!
