SITE, SITE FORCES AND CONTEXT:

SITE ANALYSIS:-

The site of Trombay public school uses water as a limited resource. The is very efficiently designed to channel the rainwater out of the school and to prevent flooding the rainwater. The roof structures and the overall topography of the ground are carefully designed to direct water out of the school during monsoons. There is a Naala just outside of the school where all the water, from the school, and used water from settlements around the school is channelled. Though the rainwater is perfectly managed on the site, the usage of water on a daily basis doesn't seem much efficient. The school does not have a source to provide drinking water, water is stored in PVC water tanks, much away from the sources that actually need water like the washbasin or the toilets.  The materials used in the construction of the existing site are heat receptive and hence the heat rises during Summers.

Design Plan and concept:

The existing classrooms have been reconfigured to create a spatiality that allows water channels and more vegetation on site. A system of reed beds is introduced that helps to purify the grey water on-site and reuse it to water the vegetation and still water bodies created near the classrooms that help to moderate the heat during summer. The toilets were fully redesigned and a septic tank is added near it which filters the waste and passes the grey water to the reed beds that further filtrate the water and direct it into the water channels.
