The Ace Driving School was started by a long-time instructor at KC’s Driving School. In partnership with KC’s, we launched our own school to better serve Waukesha and the surrounding communities. We've now been in business since 2018! We pride ourselves with our passion and experience in safe driving instruction, and giving the community an amazing life skill for the most affordable prices in town.

Driver’s Education Requirements

In Wisconsin, if you are under 18, you must take an approved driver education course in order to get your license. The Ace Driving School is licensed and insured to provide your Behind the Wheel training. In order to be able to drive on public roads you must have an instruction permit. 

To get an Instruction Permit, students under 18 must:

• 1. Be at least 15 years old

  2. Have completed an online or in-person 30-hour Wisconsin DOT approved driver's education class. Our partner, KC'S Driving School, has a great online classroom for just $99! You can enroll by clicking HERE.

  3. Enroll with ACE for Behind The Wheel Driving Instruction. Click HERE to enroll in one of our Behind the Wheel Courses. 

  4. Once payment is made, we will send you the signed MV3001 form to take to the DMV. You need this form to get your learner's permit, so do not go to the DMV before enrolling with us.

  5. A parent or legal guardian must go with you to the DMV, and you'll need to bring these required documents:

     • A government issued original birth certificate.

     • Social Security Card

  7. You are now ready to schedule your first Behind the Wheel lesson!

Instruction Permit Rules:

1.  Students must have their learner's permit for a minimum of six months, and can not get their driver's license until they are 16 years old.

2. Students are required to drive with a parent outside of their Behind the Wheel lessons! The state requires students to drive a minimum of 50 hours, and 10 of those hours must be done at night.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change my lesson?

You can either call, text, or email to notify us of a lesson cancellation. Please keep in mind there is a $20 fee for cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, so make sure to cancel early!

What do I do if I lost my learner's permit/my temps expired?

• A. If you have not completed all of your BTW Lessons, send us an email to get a new MV3001 form. There is a $20 processing fee that will need to be made prior to receiving the form.

• B. If you have completed all of your BTW lessons, you can head straight to the DMV. Tell them your Behind the Wheel Course Completion is on file in their computer system, and they will help you get a new one.

How long do I have to complete my Behind the Wheel lessons?

The course must be completed within 18 months of the original date on your instruction permit and prior to turning 18 years old. You have to have your first lesson within 60 days of the date we signed on your MV3001 form.

What do you do when there is adverse weather?

Although our goal is to never cancel lessons for any reason, we will never risk the safety of our staff, equipment, and most importantly, our students. Lessons will be cancelled if there is an impending winter storm warning, icy conditions, unplowed roads, downpours, or tornado warnings. We will always send you both an email and text regarding weather cancellations.

How do I schedule an observation hour?

Look at the schedule and pick a time that is already booked for your pickup location. We can not accommodate multiple pickup locations for observation hours, but you are more than welcome to schedule at a different school if you can get dropped off there. Send us an email with the time and date that you'd like to observe on.

How long does my student need to have their learner's permit?

Students under 18, but at least 15 and a half, must hold their learner's permit for a minimum of six months before getting their license. Although students can get their learner's permit at 15, they can not actually get their license until they are 16. Parents, keep in mind that students are required to get 50 hours of driving time with you, and 10 of those hours need to be in the dark!
