League Guide & Facts

• The second tier of Israeli Football

• 16 teams

• Teams play each other twice (30 games) then the league splits and points are halved

• League sorted by 1) points; 2) goal difference; 3) number of wins; 4) goals scored; 5) head to head; 6) deciding match. 

Promotion

• After the league split the top 8 play each other once and the top 2 are promoted

Relegation

• After the league split the bottom 8 play each other once and the bottom 2 are relegated

• Third from bottom plays team from league below to remain in division

Other

• There must be no more than 3 foreign players in the playing 11.

• Players under 16 are not allowed to play

• Upon expiry of their contracts, players aged 17-20 cannot move club unless both teams involved reach an agreement

• Upon expiry of their contracts, players above the age of 21 will be assigned a minimum fee release clause (decided by a committee) if negotiations between two teams break down over their transfer.
