Vic Johnson
Feb 24, 2020
It is with great sorrow that I inform you that Vic Johnson passed away this last Friday morning, February 21. He had been hospitalized in his home town of Wall Lake, Iowa for respiratory issues.
It appears that he tried to remove his wedding ring from his swollen finger with his teeth. In the process he inhaled the ring and it lodged in his throat. This created a situation too complicated for the local hospital and he was transferred by ambulance to Des Moines. After being stabilized he was placed on hospice and returned to his hometown hospital on Thursday, but died the next morning.
Many thanks to Vic's younger brother Dave for letting us know about Vic's death and for providing this information. Both Vic and Dave were on the Zamzam together with their Lutheran missionary parents. Vic was 10 at the time and Dave 4.
You will also remember Vic and his wife Lois' attendance at most of our Zamzam reunions. At our last reunion in Lindsborg, KS in 2016 Vic was our Sunday morning preacher.
He was always a prominent part of our reunions. His memories of the Zamzam experience, which he tended to view as a great adventure, had remained crystal clear over the years.
Special thoughts are with Lois Johnson during this difficult time and with their children and grandchildren, as well as with his brother Dave. Vic's death is a loss for us all.
