Marie Bergstrom

Marie J. (Norberg) Bergstrom, 87, of Minneapolis, MN passed away April 9, 2017. Preceded in death by parents C. Einar and Ida; loving husband Vernon; and beloved sister Ruth Nye.

She was born to medical missionaries in Tanzania, Africa. Her family survived the 1941 sinking of the Zamzam ship during WWII when Marie was age 12. She graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College, where she met Vern and her life-long group of Gustie friends. Marie devoted her life to stewardship, volunteering, and caring for family and others.

A long-time member of Mt. Olivet, she was active in Circle, Caregivers, COP, Bible studies, and many outreaches. She loved keeping updated on friends and family, and cherished every moment spent with them. All who knew her will miss her grace, kind heart, and caring soul. Her faith was strong, "Please don't cry - you know we'll see each other again!"

Survived by daughters Kristin (Tim) Gibbs, Cynthia (David) Abbe, Laurie (Martin) Hancer; sons James (Julie), Richard (Gini), and Ted (Lisa); 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother Carl Norberg; cherished nieces and nephews; and many family and friends who will deeply miss her.

Service at 3:00 pm Monday, May 1, 2:00 pm visitation, Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, Mpls. Private internment at Ft. Snelling. Memorials preferred to the NC Little Hospice or Gustavus Adolphus College.
