This month's organization is Save the Children Yemen. Save the Children is the LARGEST aid organization in Yemen, providing vital resources to the children and communities impacted by war, famine, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some facts and figures directly from Save the Children Yemen's website to get a better understanding of the work they are doing.
If you have been unable to buy lemonade/donate so far (but want to), I will be hosting a benefit night at Flatbread Bedford on October 27th from 5pm-9pm. Portions of each purchase of pizza in dine-in and takeout will be donated to The Yemen-AID Project. I will be selling lemonades and raffling off a fall-themed basket too! Please consider coming to support, with proceeds being donated to Save the Children!
For our second chairty, I decided to choose UNFPA. September is recognized as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, so I searched for an organization that made it a goal to better the mental health resources of Yemeni communities. The UNFPA funds a program called The Family Counseling and Development Foundation, which aims to provide a safe environment for those seeking mental health therapy/treatment. Some who visit the center have experienced trauma, witnessed brutal war, escaped abusive marriages/relationships, and much more. UNFPA is also working to bring food and safe shelter to Yemeni communities as well. Feel free to click on the picture to access their website, with work being done in Yemen, as well as the video below. This video caught my attention, because it follows a woman, Salwa, who had endured emotional pain and difficulties throughout life, and found comfort in The Family Counseling and Development Foundation. Please watch Salwa's story below to learn more.
For our first chairty, I chose UNICEF USA for Yemen. I've always admired the outstanding humanitarian aid that UNICEF works for every day. UNICEF is committed to aiding in sanitation, water supply, safe sewage systems, food for the malnourished, physical and mental therapy for children witnessing the terror of war, and many more challenges that the men, women, and children of Yemen are facing today. If you click on the UNICEF image to the right, you can learn more about their work, and watch videos with information about their mission. Although the videos are tear-jerkers, I feel like everyone should watch them to witness the perserverance that the people of Yemen, especially children, have to pursue a happy, peaceful, and safe environment in the future. Their hope for a better tomorrow is inspiring.
