History

History of the Williams Legacy Initiative (Founded in 2025)

The Williams Legacy Initiative was established in 2025 as an advocacy group dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of adoption in Wyoming and supporting aged out youth from foster care. Founded by The Williams Family and Nathaniel Williams And Larry Williams, both passionate national and statewide spokespersons for AdoptUSKids.org, the initiative was born out of their shared mission to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up in a loving and stable home and have the support they need to be successful.

Recognizing the challenges faced by foster youth and adoptive families, the initiative aims to educate communities, support prospective adoptive parents, and advocate for stronger adoption policies. Bonnie Williams, a dedicated advocate, took on the role of Program Manager, bringing her experience as an adoptive mother and a key supporter of adoption efforts. Alongside her wife, Michelle Williams, a nurse at CRMC, they have fostered and adopted multiple children, further cementing their commitment to the cause.

The Williams Legacy Initiative works closely with AdoptUSKids.org, state agencies, and community leaders to promote adoption resources, host awareness events, and connect families with the support they need. While not a nonprofit, the initiative operates as a powerful voice for foster youth, ensuring that adoption remains a priority in Wyoming.

Since its founding, the Williams Legacy Initiative has become a vital part of the adoption conversation in the state, helping to build a future where every child finds a forever home.

 Mission

The Williams Legacy Initiative is committed to transforming the lives of teenagers in foster care by advocating for their adoption and providing comprehensive, long-term support to youth ages 18 to 27 who are aging out of the foster care system in Wyoming. Through public education, community partnerships, and direct service initiatives, we aim to break the cycle of instability and create a legacy of hope, connection, and opportunity. Our mission is rooted in the belief that no young person should have to navigate adulthood alone, and every youth deserves a future filled with dignity, direction, and belonging.

What We Do

At The Williams Legacy Initiative, we:

• Raise public awareness about the urgent need to adopt teenagers from foster care.
  
  

• Educate communities, faith-based organizations, and potential adoptive families on how to welcome older youth into their homes.
  
  

• Provide life skills workshops, career coaching, and financial literacy training for youth aged 18–27 who are transitioning out of foster care.
  
  

• Offer mentorship and peer support programs to combat isolation and foster connection.
  
  

• Advocate for policies and practices that ensure extended foster care services, housing, education, and healthcare access for young adults.
  
  

• Create emergency resource networks to assist with housing, food, clothing, and transportation.
  
  

• Partner with local agencies, nonprofits, and businesses to build bridges of opportunity and hope for former foster youth.
