For Language Experts

An important part of our empirical work is cooperation with Language Experts (Native Speaker Linguists) who answer properties (1) on their languages and (2) on forms used in these languages (e.g. different forms of conjunction, of universal quantifiers) via questionnaires or directly via the TerraLing platform.

If you are a (new) language expert and would like to set the values on the TerraLing site for your language and/or forms, first create an account on TerraLing here: https://terraling.com/users/sign_in (right button) and then write an e-mail to rosinaev@hu-berlin.de with your name and the e-mail address you used for the account, so we can give you the rights to set values. Now you're ready to go!

(1) Here is a short guide to setting language level properties on TerraLing:

  • Pick a dataset

  • Quantification and Plurality

  • Languages – Languages

  • [Name of your language]

  • (a) pen&paper-button top right, "values" – OR (b) plus-button top right, "Add the first value"

  • choose property in the list to the left [e.g. UC2/UC3/UC4/UC5/UC6/...] (splitting up)

  • read the description in the middle and think about the answer to this question for your language

  • select value yes/no/NA

  • indicate sureness

  • submit

  • (optionally create an example)

(2) ... and here for form level properties:

  • Pick a dataset

  • Quantification and Plurality

  • Languages – Languages

  • [Name of your language]

  • [Form A of your language] // [Form B of your language] // ... (so, at this point it splits up into the different forms, which should be predefined; it's best to open a new tab for each of them)

  • pen&paper-button top right – "values"

  • choose property in the list to the left [e.g. UC2/UC3/UC4/UC5/UC6/...] (splitting up again)

  • read the description in the middle and think about the answer to this question for this form

  • select value yes/no/NA

  • indicate sureness

  • submit

  • (optionally create an example)
