To help your child reach their speech goals,
we work with you.
Just 5 minutes of daily practice helps children reach their goals faster!
Speech Snack Activities
You can have speech snacks anywhere!
Waiting for the bus
At breakfast
Sitting in the car at a stoplight
At snack time (these are “speech snacks”, after all!)
Any 5 minutes that work best for your family!
How much is too much? Too little? Just right? See the scale below for suggestions and signs to look for.

Signs
getting distracted
bored
Tips
try increasing the pace of the activity (e.g., set a time limit, increase the number of repetitions each turn)
invite your child to choose from 2-3 activities OR ask them if there is a specific activity they would like
consult SLP/CDA
Signs
both of you are having fun
child is improving and feeling good
you are giving more praise than correction
Tips
if your child is doing very well, try finding short moments throughout the day to practice in different places
Signs
avoiding talking
often frustrated
Tips
listen to your child's frustrations
keep practice sessions short (5 mins)
take frequent breaks
use the speech ladder (printable) or speech stairs (video) to try an easier target (e.g., try the /l/ sound on its own rather than /l/ in words)
consult SLP/CDA
If you are struggling with home practice, please contact your Speech-Language Pathologist or Communicative Disorders Assistant.
