The next video release to support the 'Frontiers' album is for "Iron Core". The track itself was inspired from listening to a metalcore band called "Electric Callboy". Despite barely playing guitar I wanted to re-create the energy they get in their songs, but having got a structure I liked I realised that the verse section needed lyrics, something previously unheard of for the No Emis project. It took a lot of takes before I had a vocal line that I didn't hate, but it was worth it.

The original footage for the video was all performance, but it didn't work for me. So instead I took my camera out onto the trails where I used to run regularly to get something a little different. Hopefully one day my foot will get back into a position where I can get to run them properly again, but at least with the power of editing for a 3 minute song, I can pretend that time is now!

It's incredibly almost a month since "Frontiers" was released. Feedback has been positive, which is a always nice. But either way, I find that putting a new project out into the world draws a line under it and allows me to move onwards. Otherwise there's a risk of endless tinkering which rarely improves things! The album is available from Bandcamp.

Anyway, I've finished the promotional video for the second single off the album, "Iron Core". It'll be released on the No Emis YouTube channel this coming Friday 3rd May.

"Frontiers", No Emis' fifth full length album has been released.

Written and recorded during the first 3 months of 2024, "Frontiers" pays homage to the musical influences that Si grew up with. The first part of the album follows in the footsteps of the cinematic soundcapes of Jean-Michel Jarre with later tracks drawing their influence from electronic popular music from the 1980s through to current day.

"Frontiers" is available for streaming and download  from the No Emis bandcamp page on a 'pay what you want' basis.

Work on the fifth No Emis album is well under way now. The follow-up from 2023's brooding "The Shrewsbury Affair" is much lighter in sound and explores my own musical influences. It is heavily inspired from the works of artists such as Jean-Michel Jarre, OMD, Fr/Action, Red Flag as well as a teenage diet of 1980s pop music.

At this point I've not decided exactly how to release the album. You will definitely find it on Bandcamp but I'm still undecided whether to submit the album to the streaming platforms.

This might sound odd, but let me explain.

I grew up in a world of album releases. The album itself always was a work of art to me, not merely a collection of songs shoved together. In this day and age, streaming and playlists have replaced the "mix-tapes" that my  teenager-self used to make, but unlike the process of curating a mix-tape from favourites from albums, in many ways streaming disconnects those songs from the albums from which they came. Whilst you might only want to listen to specific tracks off my albums, I'd still like you to know how they fitted into the creation of the album.

I may be alone in this feeling and that's fine. But I thought it worthy of an explanation!

A minor change to my music availability in that all my No Emis albums and EPs on Bandcamp are now priced as "pay what you want". I wanted to make them more accessible to more people. So do please go and check them out at https://noemismusic.bandcamp.com.

The new website for all my musical endeavours is now live!

For the past 3.5 years I've kept all the music stuff on my other website. The problem being that the other site is about trail running and isn't really set up for music releases. Hence it was time to give the music its own home on the internet.

Sure, I could have used the individual bandcamp pages as a temporary home, but it's not as easy to customise those in the way that I wanted them to look. All my projects are related, at least by dint of the fact I'm involved in them all, and hence it felt right to keep them under the same umbrella.

Of course should any of the projects become large enough in their own right that they need their own proper space, I'll have to revisit the decision. But for now, you can find out about each project by selecting it from the top of the page. Each page links through to where you can download and purchase my music digitally (although you'll find most of it on the regular streaming platforms).
