Vampires are the rarest races in the Ekajian category. They are only found in The Ekajian Isles, and have adapted in the cloudy weather so much that they developed pale-gray skin. They are extremely weak to sunlight, and are easily prone to sunburn. They are one of the almost extinct races in Selyria due to the Great Demonic Purge, as well as their environment. They are known as the fastest race, with top speeds of around 40-80 km/h due to their natural connection to Aeromancy. While they are extremely fast, they have a lot of weaknesses that make them need to constantly check themselves.
Half-vampires often get sensitive skin, light sensitivity, nightvision, and are able to drink blood, while also being able to eat food with alicin (such as garlic), but it would still make their digestion hard. However, they will lose their connection to Aeromancy.
Vampires have certain attributes that are known to them. Traits such as a pale skin, red eyes, and a very fast speed due to their connection to Aeromancy, are all well known towards them. But, the biggest trait they are known for is simply their diet, which is primarily blood.
Blood is the main diet of vampires. Their body has adapted to the harsh conditions of the Ekajian Isles. With very few animals to hunt, scholars suggest that vampires evolved by stalking animals, and drinking their blood while they slept. Overtime, this turned to domestication in order to harvest blood easier, and soon, it turned to other sentient beings - although this is a rare occurrence.
Vampires evolved to have sharp fangs, and saliva that contains Desmoteplase that prevents blood clot, and numbs the pain receptors in their prey's wound.
Vampires have enhanced kidneys that filter out the nutrients from the water in the blood. Their enlarged bladder makes it possible to store liquid before urinating. While their bladder is indeed enlarged, this still means that a vampire must excrete their liquids right after eating. While this is normal in vampiric cultures such as the Ekajian Isles, other races see this as taboo, which further explains their exclusion from society.
With this in mind, vampires have a high risk of iron poisoning. While their gut contains a lot of bacteria that break down the iron, foods such as Garlic, which contains alicin and other compounds, can kill these bacteria, which is very lethal for vampires.
While this can be cured by simply not eating food that contains alicin until the mircroorganisms come back (which often takes days), many vampires end up suffering massive organ failure, which leads to their death.
Vampires seemed to have evolved in lands where the sun does not shine, like the Ekajian Isles. Because of this, vampires have excellent nightvision. Arguably, they have the best out of all the races. In fact, groups such as the Vonturian Military specifically employ vampires to their ranks to make them do night operations.
Having great eyesight at night has it's drawbacks. For one, they are prone to to several eye injuries during the day. Their eyes are extremely sensitive to light, and daytime to them is similar to having several lanterns pointed at their face. They also cannot look at the sun, even for an instant, as it would cause them short term, and even long term blindness. Studies have shown however, that vampires are able to see colors with higher contrast and saturation, which could explain their great nightvision.
Adaptations to the Ekajian Isles have also rendered them prone to sunburn more easily compared to other races. Most vampires wear long sleeved clothes, wide brimmed hats, and even capes, to prevent them from getting sunburned. While it is uncommon to see vampires in the day, this outfit is usually what they wear.
Vampires that regularly go out in the sun often suffer from skin cancer.
Ekajian Vampires are the most common type of vampire ethnicity. Characterized by their dead pale skin, sharp red eyes, and long fangs, they are feared by a lot of humans - although mostly this is due to racial discrimination.
Besides the Ekajian Isles, they are found in Drasek, Vontur, and even as slaves in Sentora.
In the upper classes of Trost, there is a collective of families called the Upyr. They are characterized by their mostly blonde hair, and pale cream skin tone. No other type of Upyr can be found anywhere.
The Strigoi are a group of vampires known for their hairless appearance. They often live in the Ravenian Mountain Range, and are theorized to be the most physically strong group of vampires - although more tests are yet to be made.
They are known to have the sharpest teeth, and are often hunted down by the Order of the Holy Knights, as well as monster hunters.
They have the weakest connection to aeromancy, and often use it only to soften fall damage.
While the Sarang-Gani jungle is very hard to explore, scientists from the SUV have discovered another ethnicity of vampire in Duskalia. Known locally by the Sarang-Ganese as 'aswang', they are said to have very frizzy hair, and a darker skin-tone than the average vampire.
While rare, most vampires do not speak Selyrian, so they often do not see this as a slur, and more of an annoyance once they understand what this means.
Studies from the SUV have stated that the word 'aswang' may be heavily offensive to the Sarang-Gani vampires. According to them, they were attacked by the vampire when they called them by such term. Although, some have suggested that the vampires may not have cared about such words, but only wanted the scholars' blood.
