Dwarves are a highly-intelligent race, complemented with a high constitution that have evolved to be more suited to cave dwelling.
They are slightly stronger than humans, although they have incredibly low cardiovascular stamina compared to humans. They are not built for running marathons. They are built for power and tenacity. Because of their strength, it is common for dwarves to wear metal clothes. While this is both a fashion statement, and a cultural thing, especially for Ulfenheim Dwarves, it also protects them from UV rays, which is one of their biggest weakness.
One of the most iconic and notable qualities of the dwarven species is their short stature. The bone development of dwarves limits them to only growing up to four feet, and ten inches on average. The growth and hormonal development of dwarves is primarily focused on developing more density in bones, rather than growing in size. This has benefitted them evolutionarily, as they are known for being very durable due to this high constitution.
The downside of this however, is the fact that they have poor joint control, and their stockiness compiled with their compact build leads them to having poor dexterity. Mastering skills of agility is harder compared to the other Gaeian races, thus the dwarves usually stick to fighting styles that usually compliment their physical nature well, but it is not an extreme deficit, and some dwarves still partake in dexterous arts.
Dwarves are noted for also having their youth/adolescence have their growth rapidly accelerate brain matter and density than other races. Dwarves have gained across Gaeia partaking in feats of high intelligence and wisdom. This also includes magic, with dwarves having a 22% chance on average of being a Manaborn at birth, with affinities for elemental lines varying from family tree, to sub-race, or other genetic factors.
Dwarves have gained a notable reputation by any commoner or those knowing them in any area they are in, of having very specific growth-spots of hair. Beard-hair of male-dwarves are highly accelerated compared to any other race by an extremely high margin, with youth, male and female, of just the age of fourteen being able to start growing entire beards. Dwarf culture across the entire globe has many intricate designs depending on the local culture or location. Dwarf facial hair, compared to other races, never seems to falter even with old age impending. Many dwarves have to cut their long flowing beards themselves in order to maintain it to a sensical degree, even if that ‘sensical’ degree by other races' standards is already bountiful.
Because of the fast growth of facial hair for males, SUV researchers argue that this may be the reason for Dwarven Women tie their hair to their chin to create the illusion of a 'beard' which often confuses common humans in knowing the difference between the genders of dwarves.
Although Dwarves are Gaeians, they developed specialized evolutionary niches that made them more fit towards burrowing in the colder mountaneous climates. Having their migratory patterns move from the Ogroid Highlands, to the frozen north, and finally in Shiniya and Ibernus, Dwarves developed a short, but incredibly dense bone and muscle structure, giving them the ability to heal slightly faster than humans. They are also stronger than humans, and have the tough muscles that can be a bit of a challenge to pierce.
As their body is built for traversing underground tunnels, there aren't a lot of predators for them, hence the lack of a demand for more stamina. It is due to this
In Selyrian Dwarven Culture, Dwarven ethnicities are called 'clans'. While this is a scientifically incorrect term when it comes to consciebiology, it is important to note how plausible it is for Dwarven societies to view each of them as this way, knowing that by a sociological standpoint, Dwarves tend to live in close mountainous societies compared to human plain societies where connections with other humans tend to be more frequent. Instead, human to dwarf interactions are more common, which could explain why humans and dwarves tend to work peacefully most of the time.
Ulfenians are some of the most common dwarves, originally coming from Mount Ulfenheimm in the northern corner of Selyria. Mount Ulfenheimm is a cultural landmark and dwarf-dominated kingdom, and holds high prestige by many who come from the kingdom in question, thus causing many from across Selyria, who already come from many corners of the world, to head to the already dwarf-centralized area.
These people have plain features, but have hair colors of usually black, brown, white, or ginger. Ulfenian Dwarves are extremely diverse in what they do, and can be anything from tradesmen to battlemages.
Ulfenians have a very notable weakness. They are very sensitive to the rays of the sun. This leads to the theory that this is where the cultural origin of wearing metal hats and armor can be found.
Volosnians are a group of Ulfenian subclans that live in the frozen mountains of The Frozen North, and the Karthusian Boundary. While information about them is mostly scarce, it is said that they domesticate and harvest Ravenian Oxes for protection, and for meat.
Shiniyan Dwarves are extremely rare, but some have seen them from time to time in Konami, as many believe that they came from the Lilliputians, but have split from them as a way to ally with the humans, embracing their culture, and overtime, assimilating to the culture of Kononagari. From then on, they have spread all throughout the mountains and plains of Shiniya, working mostly as researchers, blacksmiths, and other non-combative roles. While there have been some instances of Dwarven warriors in Shiniya, such as the infamous windwalker Yodashi Minchiko, who supposedly used his small stature as an advantage in dodging attacks by the Xin'Jangese, these are only exceptions.
Gnomes are an ethnicity of Dwarves that usually live in the lower mountains of Sicarius, or in cities of busy nations such as The West Arkasios Trading Company, Porthos, or even in The Port Town in Daedriu, Caedia. They are the smallest race of dwarves by far. Coming in at an average of around two feet at maximum height.
While there is still research regarding this issue, Gnomes are known to be very adept with magic, and an estimation of 40% of their population are known to be adept at magic, usually as Geomancers creating long and intricate tunnel networks all throughout Southern Selyria, and even to the Dwarven clans in the north, leading many to believe that they might have been the first dwarves to have actually evolved.
Gnomes are known for their pale gray skin, and white shaggy hair. Unlike their northern counterparts however, their muscles and bones are not as dense and stocky, but make up for it due to their magical affinity.
They, however, have very bad eyesight, and rely mostly on smell to traverse the mountain passages.
Commonly known as either 'Plains Dwrves', 'Lowland Dwarves', or here is a theory that has suggested that halflings originated as cave dwellers, before turning to a more traditional lifestyle similar to humans.
While they are taller than dwarves, their strength is lowered to that of a normal human, if not slightly higher.
Due to their lifestyle in the lowlands, they do not suffer as much to UV rays. Instead, halflings that live close to Ulfenian dwarves typically wear cloth covers to culturally blend in.
Halflings are defined by their small stature, but also their forearm hair, that often is thicker than the average dwarf or even human.
Coming from the word 'Rijal Albahr' which is the Caedi word for 'Sea Men'. Although they live in the cities of the Sulhari Sultanate, it is believed that the Sulharians called them that way due to how they migrated.
Pygmonians are Dwarves that live in Ibernus, believed to be the result of generations of race mixing between Selyrian Dwarves, and Ibernian humans. Another theory suggests that there were ancient dwarf tunnels, but eitherway, Pygmons are the tallest dwarf race. Unlike their Selyrian Counterparts, Pygmonians actually do not live in mountains, and instead, live closely with humans in cities, where they partake in the same jobs and tasks as all races in Sulhari and Caedia.
Goblins are shorter than dwarves by a few inches, and lack their strength. Physically, goblins are weaker than humans, but their dexterity is their strength. Native to the forests of Drasek, and are thought to have evolved from gnomes in modern day Ravena, they manage to get by using their incredible prowess in hunting.
Goblins are defined by their 'elf-like' ears. Biologists have confirmed that they have better hearing compared to the average person. They stand at 3’ feet to 4’ feet on average.
Skin color is usually in hues of tan or green. Their limbs lack musculature, but their joint movement speed and control allow them to attack rapidly.
Common in Drasek, but sometimes found in Vontur and the West Arkasios Trading Company.
Common on the Sicarian Desert. They are known to have the toughest skin of all the dwarves.
They are known to have some sort of an easier way to see in the dark, but they have the weakest skin of all the dwarves. They are known to have bluish skin.
This is a very light, and almost comedic slur for most dwarves. It is to an extent that sometimes, dwarves themselves use it, such as the Stoner's Mining Guild in the Sicarian mountains.
Another light slur based on ignorance. Dwarves, particularly Volosni dwarves, tend to view this as annoying, since it puts them close to Gnomes, who are often looked down upon by dwarves from Ulfenheim.
Similar to Gnomer, but slightly more disrespectful, Ulfenian Dwarves do not want to be associated with Goblins. As a matter of fact, during the Karthusian Scholar's Guild Consciebiology update of 1585, the dwarves of Ulfenheim protested the classification of Goblins to be similar to Dwarves. This is mostly due to the stereotype of Goblins being thieves and 'savages' compared to Ulfenians, who generally live in better conditions.
Scholars argue that this is an ancient Hrothgarian word that roughly translates to 'People of the Rock' or 'Rock Men'. According to Ulfenheim legends, Hrothgarian raiders would often call dwarves this, before pillaging and massacring their villages. This is the reason why it is heavily discouraged for anyone to say this slur.
In Brumiare 13, 1578, a senator from the Allarian Council was kicked out of the building for calling a Dwarf representative a Murve. After this, he was found dead after suffering several concussions from dwarven civilians outside the building.
The word 'murve' is a very serious word that comes from the Trostian Empire, and how they described their dwarf slaves. The history of Dwarven enslavement is one of blood and humiliation. Dwarves especially were used in special 'entertainment cages' to fight each other for entertainment and made the victor eat the other as their reward and food for the next week.
This slur often ends up with someone dead. North Ravena, for example, has outlawed the use of such word.
