Mages are classified into ranks depending on their affinity level. This is determined by the painful method of putting a saint's crystal into someone's hand, and measuring how fast their arcalumenary nerves are growing. A timer shall be given, and each mage will be measured by their luxen line's growth in millimeters per second.
Before, there were only 6 ranks, but since then, this has expanded into 15 ranks as more mage reforms have been created to ensure the safety of people. Each rank has its own permissions and restrictions on what you can or cannot do in the world of TSC.
Sometimes, mages can jump ranks if they are capable, or if they have a natural affinity towards a certain element. These mages often do not match with their rank's average age, and are younger. Those who have this have the title "Scholaric" or "Imperative" next to their mage rank, with scholaric being for common ranks, and imperative for higher ranks.
Scholaric ranks are the more common ranks in the world of TSC. Most manaborn can reach most of these ranks as long as they give time.
Initiates are new students studying under a mage academy. Initiates usually learn how to meditate properly first, or learn more about the element they choose to study.
Initiates who wish to still focus on physical strength can do so relatively well with no difference with non-manaborn people.
A novice is a student that is now a learner of their element, and is now studying the basics of their element.
Novice mages who wish to focus on physical strength can do so relatively well with no difference with non-manaborn people.
A fledgeling is a senior student that can help or assist in helping initiates learn how to meditate. They are often able to practice spells anywhere inside their mage academy, provided that they are supervised by an adeptus or above.
Fledgelings who wish to use physcial power can only reach a certain level of power, and will never reach the maximum power a physical fighter can have. However, fledglings who do not prioritize magic can still go fairly well with most fighters.
Now having the authority to fully practice spells in practice rooms even without an adeptus's supervision, Disciples are mages who are preparing for their graduation.
Disciples who wish to use physcial power can only reach a certain level of power, and will never reach the maximum power a physical fighter can have. However, Disciples who do not prioritize magic can still go fairly well with most fighters if they prioritize fighting.
Apprentices are assistants of Adeptus Mages, and are generally trusted by teachers to carry out lower intermediate spells. An apprentice is able to use spells outside of the mage academy as long as there is an adeptus or above to supervise them.
The apprentice rank is also the first rank with a formal scholaric symbol, which means that students below the age of 18 can attain this rank as long as they can prove their high affinity level, and their proficiency in magic. It is also the first mage rank with a dedicated title (refered to by the same name) to someone's name, like Apprentice Avarosia.
Apprentices can also choose to study under a sage, or any rank above it if they want, giving them more opportunities and a more focused teacher.
Apprentices often start to feel the physical effects of magic on the body, although it is minimal. Most apprentices who abandon magic may still be able to fight well with strong fighters, but they have to rely a little bit more on agility and flexibility rather than strength and endurance. Apprentices can have the strength comparable to a knight.
Graduates are simply mages who have finished their studies and are now able to practice magic outside of their mage academy. While extremely rare, there are scholaric graduates that earned their rank at young ages. The youngest one was then Lady Taefana at 16 years old, who would then become a Druid from The Kingdom of Drasek, before disappearing.
Graduates can only practice and do spells inside their nation, and must always carry their magebook.
Graduates are able to fight, and this is usually where spellswords choose their path, as this is simply the physical limit fighters can make for their physical strength, as their strikes can reach to the strength of a seasoned soldier.
An adeptus is an official title for mages who have reached a level of affinity higher than a graduate. Mages of this rank are able to apply to be a magical professor at mage academies. Mages who have this rank are addressed as "Adeptus."
Adeptus mages have the authorization to travel to other nations provided that they ask for a permit from a national mage council.
The adeptus rank is where most Sorcerers stop when it comes to increasing their affinity, and instead, prioritize fighting. Their punches will never reach the power of your average veteran boxer, but they will instead rely a little bit more on flexibility.
Rectors, in academic circles, are heads of faculties. However, the Rector rank in general is for mages who have the authority to travel to other nations without needing a permit from a national mage council as long as they carry their mage books.
Rectors are your average rank when it comes to what people associate with when it comes to being a mage, as they are commonly seen to carry large magebooks and staffs.
This is where mages stop using their body that much, as while they can still fight similar to that of a villager with no combat experience, and their physical strength is similar to that of a skinny 20 year old.
One of the more respected mage ranks. They are addressed as Lord/Lady and are given the "Archmage Sigil", which grants them authorization to travel anywhere. Instead of magebooks, archmages are instead allowed to have an "High Scholaric Pass", which is a small notebook, that acts as a smaller version of a magebook.
Archmages can still run relatively similar to a normal person, but their physical fighting power can only reach that of a skinny untrained 18 year old human.
Imperative ranks are powerful ranks that are typically tied with leadership positions like politics and the military.
A very respected rank for a mage. Most mages have this as their final rank, as it is extremely difficult to attain. However, Sages are allowed to use some of the dark arts spells as long as there is a master to supervise them.
Due to their power and knowledge of magic, Sages are given the authority to have around less than 10 apprentices should those mages choose to study under them instead. They are addressed by the word 'Sage'.
Sages can function relatively similar to a normal human being, but their strikes are similar to a weak and skinny 16 year old.
Archsages are even more powerful, as they have the authority to have as many as 30 apprentices, and can use all the dark arts as long as a master supervises them. They are addressed by the word 'Archsage'.
Archsages often received great prestige and admiration, as they are seen as extremely powerful, which often makes them easy to have the influence to be regional leaders, or rise to their military's ranks easily.
Archsages have almost no physical power, and it is best described as a malnourished 12 year old trying to punch you. They generally need more time to rest for their stamina, and cannot run for long distances. They can sometimes be found in hospitals asking for healing to replenish their aging body.
Elders are one of the most powerful mages that common ranks will ever see. If an Elder is a Sanamancer, they can receive an official seal for their family, name, and clan, and are given official status to be a Druid. They are also able to use the dark arts as much as they want.
Elders are both feared and admired, as they are rare to be seen in the field. Oftentimes, they have apprentices that heal their constantly aging skin and muscles, but their raw magical power is always a sight to behold.
While there is an imperative version of the Elder rank, there has only been 1 official record of such, that being Count Arcyn from The Kingdom of Drasek. The imperative version of this rank is often seen as redundant or useless.
The strongest physical punch of an elder was described as "The power of a child trying to push you." Elders need constant care with Sanamancers and have a great appetite. This is also where a lot of physical complications within the body start to arise.
One of the rarest ranks attainable in the world. This rank is so rare that there is no imperative version, as mages die before they could even reach this rank. However, these mages do exist.
Masters are able to create their own mage academy, and have a seat in their nation's mage council. They do not need to carry a mage certificate anymore, and are instead, given a master's badge. This is also because of their fame, and most of the time, people already know who these people are. Although rare, Venators often take precaution if they wish to fight them.
Masters are known to have 1 or 2 personal sanamancers to heal them, as they often cannot physically function well for long periods of time. Most of the time, their age mixes with this, which is the reason why it is rare to see a master.
At the moment, there are about 65 Grandmasters in the entire world. Each Grandmaster is bound to represent their nation in the World Mage Council, which has its headquarters in Naerem, in the Kingdom of Hreinngar, known as the Arcane Citadel. However, there are also 3 other headquarters if the grandmasters wish to meet elsewhere. Most people do not see grandmasters, and are only known by their portraits and sometimes, with their rare feats of magical power. Grandmaster Idris Horrenson for example, shielded the entire city of Naerem with the help of other mages from a violent storm in 1547.
Grandmasters are often served by several healers that not only heal them, but lengthen their lives and make them look young. Without them, they often cannot function properly for months and eventually may die.
According to the SUV, there are about an estimated 5 or maybe less aspects in the entire world. Currently, they hold a specific title based on what they have done.
St. Elizabeth, also known for her common name Elisa, or her old name Ilicia, is known as the Aspect of Light and Order. She is known to protect the kingdom of Sentora, and is known to be the only mage capable of using heat to create beams of light that burns more than a million celcius.
Ekaj, also known for his old name Icasia, is the Aspect of Darkness and Chaos. He is known to kill random people, and spread change to the world may that be positive or negative.
Te Atua is known as The Aspect of change. While there has been a confirmed sighting near the Eternal Ocean, she is incredibly rare to be seen.
The Entity however, is still yet to be seen. However, there has been evidence of amalgamations, and some sketches of what they look like. However, most efforts to search for them have simply stopped as the SUV ran out of explorers in Duskalia.
The SUV theorizes that if aspects sever their ties to their malumancers, it will only take them 3 weeks to die of malnutrition and hunger.
