Velociraptor Duskaliensis
The Sarang-Ganese Raptor is found in Southern Duskalia, around the Sarang-Gani Jungle. They are known to migrate to the north during the dry season, and near Sarang-Gani during the typhoon season.
According to the SUV, Sarang-Gani Raptors are known to hunt in packs. They often live in their territories and have a ranking system where the oldest males and females act as the Alphas, and often check in with the fledglings to keep them disciplined and ready to hunt.
Raptor nests are semi-underground burrows that are made up of leaves and straw, and sometimes, especially during mating season, raptors decorate their nests with flowers.
For Domestcated raptors, this is not needed, but flowers are often one of the best ways to treat a domesticated one.
Raptors have stronger bones than other animals their height. They have slow twitch muscles, meaning they can hunt and fight for prolonged periods of time without needing rest, however they work less efficiently. Raptors have very sharp teeth to make up for their fairly low bite force compared to other Duskalian creatures.
Compared to their Ibernian Counterparts, Sarang-Ganese raptors have more brownish colors, opting to camouflage rather than stand out.
Height: 2.5m
Length: 2-3m
Weight: 100-150 kgs
Bite Force: 250-500 psi
Raptors are able to work efficiently as a team, as well as use great strategies when hunting. They usually aim for bigger opponents due to their confidence in their tactics, as they benefit much more off of it. They pretty much live off of the ‘high risk, high reward’ mindset. Brain damage will usually lead to their inevitable death depending on the severity, as they cannot hunt correctly without being able to execute their plans with their packs with utmost accuracy.
Raptors have adapted to be able to hunt larger prey as smaller animals are much more difficult to feed an entire pack with. The Marrow in their bones is able to be used in basic medicines.
Incredibly high jumpers, they use this to pounce on other creatures and climb mountains. They can jump around 2-3 Metres high
Sharp claws and teeth, mainly used to rip skin to kill and eat their food.
Thick skin, used as protection against sharp claws or teeth. They also have feathers to keep themselves warm during winter.
Swift runners, mainly to avoid being hit by their prey/predator.
The average lifespan of a Sarang-Ganese raptor is 20 - 25 years. Living conditions will affect their lifespan, as they have adapted to be in generally warm areas, as even during the winter the areas of Duskalia they inhabit are quite hot. They are hunted quite frequently, by both humanoid species and their natural prey, which causes them to die slightly early depending on the ecosystem around them. Female raptors will lay around 4 - 6 in their lifetime, generally in an area where the entirety of the pack can watch over the egg. It takes the eggs around 3 - 5 months to hatch, and raptors will be fully grown at age 10. They may grow slightly after this, but not by significant amounts.
Raptors have been spotted all around Duskalia in large numbers, and therefore researchers suggest that the raptor population may be growing into an infestation. These numbers are boosted by Duskalian tribes Domesticating them and breeding them in order to use them in battle. In the wild though, many raptors die during hunting or whilst being hunted, which seems to keep the numbers where it is currently.
In the areas they live, raptors are secondary consumers due to the threat of the animals around them. They generally do not struggle fighting against larger creatures when in their packs, however if they are fighting alone or there is more than one predator they are likely to lose the fight. They will usually wear their prey out before attacking them as they are not the strongest creatures, and need to rely on precise attacks to ensure that they will die without getting injured.
Many Duskalian tribes and others have been known to tame and train these beasts to use in battle and fight predators. They tend to do this in one of two ways. The first method is to take a raptor egg from a pack of raptors and train it as a hatchling. There is a likely chance of dying when infiltrating their homes, as raptors are very defensive of their eggs. The other way is to find lone raptors or split one off from the rest of the pack and bribe them with food and shelter. Raptors generally won't attack without their pack as they are aware of their weaknesses, so this is highly effective, it’s just the rarity of a lone raptor and difficulty of splitting one off from their pack that’s the issue, and it may take a while for them to be comfortable around humanoid species. If you do manage to do this though, raptors have proven to be quite good companions and battle machines. You may be able to train your raptor to be comfortable enough to let you sit on its back, which is an effective warfare tactic within Duskalian tribes.
Sarang-Ganese wild raptors are larger in size, and much more aggressive. While slower than their domesticated counterparts, they're known to make the jungle a nightmare to cross.
Sarang-Ganese Domesticated Raptor, known for their common name "Gilas", are the most common transportation animal in the Sultanate of Sarang-Gani. Compared to their wild counterparts, they are more docile, and have adapted to be able to eat rice grains much more effectively, absorbing its nutrients and energy, much faster than any other type of raptor. This is also why they have develop a beak-like mouth.
