As social psychologists, our lab's research focuses on understanding how people can achieve optimal well-being by exploring the interactions between the social context, relationship context, and the self.
Specifically, we investigate ways to promote and maintain healthy romantic relationships in the face of racial discrimination, with a focus on interracial couples. By studying the impact of discrimination on relationships, we aim to identify strategies, like perspective-taking, that can mitigate its negative effects. Additionally, we explore how romantic relationships influence a person's sense of self. Understanding self-concept change within relationships, including conflict resolution, attachment styles, and thoughts about breakup, can shed light on well-being outcomes. Our ultimate goal is to apply this research to improve people's health and well-being.
