I am a teacher that got my start here in Lockhart after receiving my Masters in Elementary Education at Texas State University.  For the majority of my teaching career I've taught kindergarten, where I was focused on teaching the foundational skills for reading and writing.  I've taught in various settings, rural and inner city public schools, as well as in a private school setting.  My last year of teaching in San Antonio pushed me to further my passion for helping children learn to read when I witnessed my own child struggling. It was a challenge for him to recognize letters, attach sounds to letters, and blend those sounds to read the words he saw on the page. As a mother of 3 and a veteran kindergarten teacher, I knew it was best to not wait, but seek help.

Why I opened The Reading House...

After my son was diagnosed with dyslexia, he began to receive services at school (30 minutes per day in a group of 6) and although I was thankful for what the school was doing, I knew it was not enough.  To provide him better support, I sought training in multiple dyslexia programs (Reading by Design and Reading Readiness) and completed extensive training in the Orton- Gillingham approach.  The more I learned, the more I realized that I wanted to help other children by providing  dyslexia services here in my hometown. I know from firsthand experience how it feels to see your child struggle to read when those around him seem to acquire the skill so effortlessly.
