WHS Yearbook--The Pride
The task of The Pride is to document the full school year at Western High School. Our yearbook is fully student-produced and funded. Our staff gather pictures, interview people, write our captions and copy, create the pages, and sell books and ads to fund publication.
We are a fall delivery book which allows us to cover the complete year from the start of school through graduation. Books are generally delivered in early Sept and info on delivery will be posted to this page and to the yearbook Facebook and Instagram accounts.

sprINgSANITY
WHS Yearbook--The Pride created sprINgSANITY in 2012 to celebrate the crazy fun that is SPRING!
Activities vary but we usually hold a spring spirit week, post about and encourage attendance at all the spring sports, host a dodgeball tournament, and more! This is also usually the LAST WEEK for yearbook orders.

About Ms Sponsler
Hi! I’m Erika Sponsler--I graduated from WHS in 1992 and I have been teaching at WHS since 1998. I teach US History, AP US History, sociology, and yearbook. I really enjoy helping students prepare for the future by building their skills in reading, research, and writing. I am a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Social Relations from James Madison College—a small college within MSU where the focus is on public policy, social science, and pre-law. The college is designed to challenge students through group discussions and research and to teach students to think, interpret, and analyze social policy and its impacts. I believe the purpose of social studies/history for high school students is to teach them to be active, engaged, educated participants in their community and world.
My minors are in English--I taught Accelerated Eng (like AP prep) and gen English until 2006--and Environmental Science. I also have a masters degree in social studies curriculum design and teaching. I completed my internship in 1997 at Jackson High and then subbed in various districts before being hired at WHS. I am interested in evolving social studies curriculum issues and host a monthly Social Studies Network at the JCISD and serve the county representing social studies teachers at the state level as a liaison with the Michigan Social Studies Supervisors Association. In 2015 I was honored to be selected by Jackson Magazine as one of the Top 5 teachers in Jackson County and again in 2018 as a Top 10 teacher.
Yearbook is one of my 'nerdy things' and I was an editor of this book when I was a student at WHS. That means I have been a part of producing 30+ yearbooks (counting this one!) at WHS. Yearbook has evolved since 1988-89, but I believe it is one of the most fun and important tasks a student can choose to do. It's the only history of this year, with these students, in this place.
