Doc Berry Enters Transfer Portal

It’s customary for extraordinary athletes to take a look at what other opportunities they have available through the recent establishment of the NCAA’s transfer portal. Athletes can make lots of money doing this which led to beloved English and Latin teacher Dr. John Berry to beg the question: “Why don’t I do that?”
Now, believe it or not Doc Berry did not enter the transfer portal for his amazing football or basketball skills; instead, he was interested in finding schools looking for someone who seriously knows their Latin grammar.
“I’m just as good, if not better, at Latin as these guys are at basketball,” he said.“If anyone deserves millions of dollars to transfer, it’s me.”
He laughed at the idea of being worried about his current students falling behind in his classes.
“If I were my students,” he said, “which thank God I am not, maybe I would pay a bit more attention in class, and I wouldn’t have to worry about that.”
Some students were in disbelief over the prospect of Doc Berry entering the transfer portal. “Doc wouldn’t leave, he'd miss me too much,” said freshman Hollis “Bear” Johnson. “Plus there’s no way he’s getting nearly as much money as he’s expecting.”
Despite the love from his students, Doc has kept looking for new opportunities. To pretty much everybody’s surprise he was offered a job at The Latin School of Chicago for boat loads of money. Without much hesitation, he previewed a class at Latin and saw the classes and students he would teach if he wanted to make all that money. The next day Doc was back at Carmel.
“I would do a lot of things for that money,” he explained, “but teaching at that school is not one of them.”
So Doc continues to teach all of his favorite students–at least until he gets tired and does this all again next year.“I think he would have just missed me too much,” claimed sophomore Jayson Hopkins after Doc's return. “Yeah, that’s definitely it.”
