Seniors bring down the house at Prom, cause thousands in damage

Suit and tie. Corsage. Good food. Dance floor. Loud music.
These are all things that come to mind when one thinks of the tradition that is a high school prom.
For those in attendance at a prom, there are high hopes that no serious conundrums or issues arise during the evening’s scheduling. However, things didn’t go so smoothly at Mount Carmel’s prom that just happened recently.
The many seniors and their dates that were in attendance quite literally brought the house down.
“‘Again’ by Fetty Wap came on and then all of a sudden, it happened,” said senior Leonard Siegal.
The incident in question is when the ceiling came crashing down at the Lincoln Park Zoo’s ballroom where the dance took place.
“I was hitting that stanky leg and then all of a sudden I saw the chandeliers start swaying from side to side,” said senior Ryan Clark. “I was worried for a second, not so much because of the chandeliers, but because the leg that I was stankying was the one I had torn my ACL on just over a year ago.”
Clark was not the only senior that also saw the chandeliers moving right before the ceiling came crashing down.
“I saw the lights moving around and then the next thing I know we’re being told to run out of the gym,” said Michael Schwarz. “I condition a lot though so I was able to book it out of there pretty quick.”
While the ceiling did in fact have some cracks and eventually fall, miraculously, no one was injured.
“It’s a miracle that no one was hurt,” said Dean Dan O’Connor, who was spared any risk as he was outside interrogating a senior whose breathalyzer tested positive for Listerine.
Multiple faculty chaperones who did not want to give their names mentioned that they quietly wished a few certain seniors would have been in the ballroom when the ceiling fell.
A ballroom ceiling crashing down might sound like a recipe for disaster, but thankfully it fell in a way that surrounded the dance pit, whereas all attendees were clustered.
Even though everyone made it out safe, the question of why the ceiling fell in the first place is still circling around campus.
Some seniors are sure of what they saw. Others are not as confident.
“All I know is that Eddie Ryan started doing the worm, and the next thing I know were running for our lives,” said Kyle Chevalier.
Ryan had a simple response when asked about his dance move.
“I did the worm,” he said.
Others are also in agreement that it was Ryan’s worm move that caused the building to shake enough to bring the chandeliers flying down.
“Oh yeah it was definitely that,” said Christos Dimas. “One time he did the worm on a bus ride out to a basketball game. Coach Segroves had to buy some new tires.”
As the investigation continues to go on, so do reports about certain animals making their way into the streets of Chicago.
“I may or may not have opened some enclosures in the monkey house,” said Ethan Battig. “That’s for me and God to know.”
The seniors are awfully lucky no one got hurt. They’re even luckier that Eddie Ryan is currently seeking help for his antics.
“I no longer do the worm,” he said.
