The chaos all started when a former NBA star changed Mount Carmel forever with his presence.
It was a regular day at MC when whispers arose in classrooms in the 8th period of the day. Murmurs spread throughout the school. “Is he really here?”, “Someone told me…”, “I swear I just saw him.”
What were the murmurs talking about? None other than Shaquille O’Neal.
After the horrendous stampede involving the student body members swept through the halls of MC, damages could be seen throughout both the school buildings.
“I could see doors to classrooms ripped off their hinges, laying on the ground,” said a teary-eyed junior, TJ Kolke.
As many students worried about being swept into the herd, even those who were inside the mob weren’t safe.
“I saw someone get thrown into a locker and dent it,” said a visibly shaken sophomore, Aubrey Trotter.
Even some of Mt. Carmels most prized possessions weren’t safe from the destruction that followed the stampede. “I tried to stop the trophy case from collapsing, but there were just too many of them causing a ruckus,” said senior Aidan Sauseda.
“They were like animals,” said sophomore Tayib Hussain. “Anytime someone even mentioned Shaq in a different location, like, forty of them would start sprinting there with no regard for who or what was in the way.” Hussain was shocked to find a large dent in his locker after giving his viewpoint on the matter.
Many faculty members were trained to be able to protect any exit of the main building for situations exactly like this one. Their skills were first tested when Shaq’s footsteps literally echoed throughout the halls as he went into the Alumni Gym. It all went fairly smoothly as they were able to blame the wind for the sound and direct students into their last class of the day.
An English teacher, Mr. Tim Baffoe, was able to call in a favor and get an interview with Shaq and have him go over his experience at Mt. Carmel.
“It was definitely an interesting experience,” Shaq said, wearing his gifted MC sweater and hat that were custom made for him to commemorate his visit. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen this type of reaction when I’ve gone somewhere. I saw a couple kids start a human pyramid at some point.”
Even with the high amount of security, some students were able to get a photo of Shaq, and some even got a photo standing next to him. This has caused a new market to emerge within the student body centered around the movement of photos and videos with Shaq. With only a few students having any type of photography with Shaq, a bidding war has begun for photos that no one else has, included the most coveted–Mr. Baffoe’s selfie with the NBA star. The photos are bought off of the owner, then the buyer goes to someone in Mr. Matthew McGuire’s video media class and pays a small fee to get themselves photoshopped in with Shaq.
So far, no one has seemed to come up with a price to get the Baffoe/Shaq Holy Grail of pics.
Rumors have already started to spread about DJ Diesel being at the next MC homecoming.
