Submission Guidelines

The Marginal Page welcomes submissions from writers, readers, thinkers, and storytellers from around the world. We seek original, engaging, and thoughtfully crafted work across a range of literary forms.

Anyone may submit, regardless of age, location, or previous publication experience.

Please read the following guidelines carefully before submitting.

1. CATEGORIES

We currently accept submissions in the following categories:

FICTION

Short stories and other works of fictional prose.

Word limit: 5,000 words

NON-FICTION

Creative nonfiction, personal narratives, memoir-style writing, and other nonfiction pieces.

Word limit: 5,000 words

ESSAYS

Personal, literary, cultural, reflective, or argumentative essays.

Word limit: 5,000 words

POETRY

All forms and styles of poetry are welcome.

Limit: Up to 3 poems per submission
Maximum length: 100 lines per poem

REVIEWS

Reviews of books, literary works, films, or other relevant cultural works.

Word limit: 4,000 words

RPHOTOGRAPHY

We accept original photography that complements the literary and creative spirit of The Marginal Page. We are interested in photographs that communicate an idea, atmosphere, perspective, or story in their own right.

Image limit: Submit 1-5 original photographs per submission in high quality. If submitting a series, please ensure the images form a cohesive body of work.

2. WHO CAN SUBMIT?

Anyone may submit to The Marginal Page!

We welcome both emerging and experienced writers from anywhere in the world. You do not need previous publication experience to submit your work.

3. ORIGINAL WORK

All submissions must be the original work of the author.

By submitting to The Marginal Page, you confirm that:

• The work is your own.

• The work has not been plagiarised.

• You have the right to submit the work for consideration.

• The submission does not knowingly violate another person's copyright or intellectual property rights.

Plagiarised or improperly submitted work will not be considered.

4. PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED WORK

The Marginal Page only considers previously unpublished work.

This generally includes work that has not appeared in:

• Another magazine or journal

• A book or anthology

• A website or blog

• A public online platform

• Any other publicly accessible publication

If you are unsure whether your work counts as previously published, please contact us before submitting.

5. SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS

Simultaneous submissions are welcome.

You may submit the same piece to other publications while it is under consideration at The Marginal Page.

However, if your work is accepted elsewhere, please notify us as soon as possible so that we can withdraw it from consideration.

6. MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS

Multiple submissions are welcome.

However, please ensure that:

• Every submission falls within one of our accepted categories.

• Each piece meets the relevant word or submission limit.

• Your submissions are clearly labelled.

We kindly ask contributors not to submit an excessive number of pieces at one time.

7. FORMATTING

Please submit prose work in .DOC, .DOCX or .PDF formats unless otherwise stated. Photography should be submitted in .JPEG, .TIFF or RAW formats Only.

We recommend:

• A clear, readable font

• Standard font size

• Reasonable spacing and margins

• The title clearly displayed

• Page numbers for longer manuscripts

Please proofread your work before submitting.

For poetry, multiple poems may be submitted in a single document.

8. AI-GENERATED CONTENT

The Marginal Page values original human creativity.

AI-generated submissions are NOT eligible for publication.

Authors remain responsible for the originality and authenticity of the work they submit.

9. CONTENT AND SENSITIVE MATERIAL

We welcome writing that explores a wide range of ideas and experiences.

However, submissions containing sensitive themes should include an appropriate content warning where necessary.

The Marginal Page reserves the right to decline work that does not suit the publication's standards, audience, or editorial direction.

10. EDITING

Selected submissions may undergo an editorial process before publication.

Editors may suggest changes involving:

• Grammar

• Spelling

• Clarity

• Structure

• Consistency

• Formatting

We respect the author's creative voice. Significant changes will not be made without communication with the author.

11. RIGHTS

Authors retain copyright to their work.

By accepting publication with The Marginal Page, authors grant the magazine permission to publish the accepted work in the relevant issue and promote it through the magazine's official platforms.

Any additional publication or republication arrangements will be communicated clearly to the author.

12. RESPONSE TIME

Response times may vary depending on the number of submissions received and the editorial workload.

We appreciate your patience while our team carefully reviews submissions.

13. ACCEPTANCE

Submissions are considered based on their quality, originality, relevance, and suitability for the particular issue.

Please note that a rejection does not necessarily mean that a piece lacks merit. Editorial decisions may also depend on factors such as theme, available space, and the overall balance of an issue.

14. SUBMISSION DEADLINE

Submissions for Issue 01 will remain open until Decmber 31st, 2026. Please ensure your work is submitted before the deadline, as submissions received afterward may not be considered for this issue.
