The Mad Girl's Notebook, founded in 2025, is a female-owned literary magazine inspired by Sylvia Plath and her contemporaries. We are dedicated to creating an accessible space for artists and writers to share their work and connect with eachother. Like Sylvia Plath, The Mad Girl's Notebook believes in messy, unbridled passion. We focus on capturing the essence of art, abandoning perfectionism for imaginiation and creativity. The Mad Girl's Notebook is for the messy girls, the girls that don't always fit in, the girls that have been called loud, or melancholy, or too much. It is for the girls that don't always make sense, but are dedicated to what they love.
The Mad Girl's Notebook is specifically inspired by Sylvia Plath's "Mad Girl's Love Song." The poem captures the romantic and untamed essence of the magazine and our dedication to "the mess." We believe in insanity, love, and art, and are above all dedicated to making the unheard heard. Like the mad girl, your voice and thoughts matter, and The Mad Girl's Notebook is here to tell your story.
"God topples from the sky, hell's fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan's men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead."
-Sylvia Plath, "Mad Girl's Love Song"
