Rules

Rules

Basic rules – these are our basic rules that apply to all our games.

Capturing another player – sometimes it's important to be able to capture or restrain another player. This also includes our Arrest rules.

Pickpocketing – our standard rules for taking items from other players without their consent.

Investigating pickpocketing – rules for investigating pickpocketing.

Forming a band - rules for forming a band, for those that want to do that sort of thing.

Using abilities, items and money

Using Abilities - if you want to play an ability on another player, then hold the ability up to the camera. (You'll need to have printed them first, of course.) You can fold the paper to hide any abilities you don't want to reveal. Then mark off the ability use.

Secret and Information - you need to show your Secret or Information to another player then simply hold it up to the camera. Fold the paper to hide anything you don't want the player to see.

Items and Money - Items and money are in your Google Drive folder. If you want to give an item/money to someone else, tell the GMs and they will move the file from your folder to the other person's.

Video chat etiquette - Discord

We will start in the Out of character (OOC) lounge on Discord.

Please change your nickname to your character name.

You can use any of the other rooms for a private chat - just agree with another character and meet them there.

If you enter a room and find other people there, you can either stay or leave. If you are in a room and other people enter, it's up to you how you react. (Just like playing face-to-face - you can't always avoid being overheard!)

The GMs will generally be in the OOC lounge.

If you need a private word with the GMs, send them a message and we'll go to the GM desk.

Announcements

We'll make announcements in the Out of character (OOC) lounge and via Discord's announcements.

Casting Questionnaire

Before the game

  • I'll use the FB event page to make announcements before the game, so please ensure that notifications are on.

  • Read your character sheet .

  • Check that you can use Discord - set your screen name to be your character name. If you're struggling to use Discord, get in touch.

  • Check that your webcam and microphone work. (Tip - if you use your laptop as a second screen as I do, it’s worth rearranging your setup so that you face your laptop (and more importantly its webcam) so that you are face on to everyone rather than being side on.)

  • Check that you can access the Google Drive folder for your character (click on your character on the Characters page).

  • Print out Sheet with Secret/info and Abilities so that you can hold them up to the screen during the game. (If you don’t have a printer then cut and paste into chat, or we’ll work on a trust basis.)

  • Print out your character sheet if you think you need to do so (or have it on a tablet, or a second screen).

  • Get a notepad and pen to make notes (if you think you want to). We’ll be trying to figure out who the murderer is!

  • Get costume (optional)

  • Get drinks and snacks (optional)

During the game

  • I’d like to start at 2pm. I’ll be online from about 1.45.

  • We should be done by 5-5.30pm.

  • If you need to speak to a GM I’ll be in the common room. Or message me.

  • If you need to exchange an item with another player, let me know and I will move the item/money from one folder to another.
