Performing is the act of expressing one's artistry on a stage or in any public space. By giving a performance, the audience is introduced to a multitude of abstract concepts while also receiving a wholesome experience. Performances such as plays, musicals, concerts or even a comedy show bring people together and provide a safe enviornment to explore creativity. The art of performance is vital for our society as it is a form of mass communication and there have been several moments in history that they play a role in the formation of ideas for our modern day culture.
Desiree Pagan is a communications specialist finishing her degree at St. John's University in New York. Growing up surrounded by performing arts, she has an inside perspective to what makes performing so important. Having access to dance from a young age, the art of performance taught her key life skills that carried on into her career off of the stage. learning how to properly contort your body to create art gave her a sense of control beginning with knowledge of yourself. Using these skills, she dabbled in acting and singing in musicals and plays. Gaining a sense of the stage was extremely important in beginning her interest in communications. By having an oppurtunity to manage the stage, she has found her passion for media management and film making.
A performance allows you to express yourself in a way you never thought possible. Being able to reach into yourself and find the things that make you unique are one of the perks of a performance. Playing a character is like an out of body experience that you are fully aware for.
Having complete control of your body allows you to tap into you senses. When performing, you are able to feel the emotion or message you are trying to convey as it rushes through your entire body. This art form has gone on to shape our current culture and will continue to change the world.
