The Heartland Winds

Welcome to the homepage for the Heartland Winds! 

The Heartland Winds Community Band was  founded in 2007 by Chuck Campbell. Rehearsing in Elizabethtown, KY the Heartland Winds has presented numerous concerts in the Elizabethtown community showcasing a wide variety of repertoire & local talent. When founded, the band played three concerts each summer at Freeman Lake Park. Since 2009 the band has provided three concerts a year; a Christmas Concert in December followed by two additional performances, typically in the months of March and May/June.  Since 2017 the Heartland Winds has been under the direction of Dave Coffing. Dave is the 5th director of the Heartland Winds and is currently the longest serving director in Heartland Winds history. Under Dave's direction the band has performed twice representing community bands at the Great American Brass Band Festival.

Meet our director!

Mr. Dave Coffing, retired from the Nelson County Schools, is the director of the Heartland Winds. One of the original members of the band, Dave has laid his trumpet aside to pick up the baton again to direct the Heartland Winds. In addition to his roles as chief information officer and technology integration specialist with Nelson County schools, Dave has also served as both High School and Middle School director of bands and has held leadership positions with KMEA. In addition to serving as the Choir Director at Wickland Baptist Church in Bardstown, Dave also plays with and has served as Assistant Director for the River Cities Concert Band in Louisville, KY. Dave also plays with the KY Home Guard Band, a re-enactment Civil War regimental band and with the Moonlight Big Band.
