🚤 Ships Race - A STEAM Project-Based Assessment 🔧🌊
At Summit International Schools, we wrapped up Term 3 with an exciting and hands-on STEAM project-based assessment that had our students fully engaged — designing, building, and racing their very own motor-powered boats! ⚙️💡
Students went through three key phases in this journey:
1️⃣ 3D Design Phase – Where creativity met digital skills as students designed their boats using 3D modeling tools.
2️⃣ Research & Construction Phase – Turning ideas into reality by researching propulsion systems and building functional boats with motors and water pumps.
3️⃣ Race Phase – The final test! Our school swimming pool became the race arena where students tested their creations in real conditions. 🏁
Throughout the project, students developed and applied key STEAM skills:
🔹 Science – Understanding buoyancy, force, and water dynamics
🔹 Technology – Using 3D design software and electric components
🔹 Engineering – Building and troubleshooting real prototypes
🔹 Art – Incorporating creativity in design
🔹 Math – Measuring, calculating dimensions, and optimizing balance
The highlight wasn’t just the final race — it was the learning journey itself. Students collaborated, innovated, problem-solved, and learned by doing, which is truly at the heart of effective 21st-century education.
Proud of their enthusiasm, persistence, and the meaningful learning that came from this experience! 🙌

Water Rocket Challenge - Learning Takes Flight!
After a full month of planning and preparation, we proudly launched our Grade 10 Water Rocket Challenge last weekend – and it was truly a day to remember!
This initiative was rooted in Project-Based Learning (PBL) – where students actively explore real-world challenges through hands-on experiences. We began by introducing key concepts in aerodynamics and 3D design, guiding students through research on how rocket fins and nose cones impact flight, and helping them calculate the optimal measurements for their rockets.
From there, we transitioned into the hands-on building phase – turning theory into action. Students brought their designs to life using soda bottles, cardboard, and recycled materials. They tested, adjusted, and refined their rockets based on the data they had gathered, applying critical thinking and engineering principles every step of the way.
This activity beautifully integrated STEAM education – combining Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics – while reinforcing the core values of Project-Based Learning: collaboration, creativity, inquiry, and innovation.
The grand finale was our launch day event, with parents, teachers, and students all coming together to witness the excitement. The smiles, cheers, and sense of accomplishment spoke volumes.
This wasn’t just a science project – it was a journey of discovery, design, and doing. A big thank you to everyone who made this day a success!
Here’s to more learning that inspires, empowers, and launches futures!
