NMR metabolomics is powerful tool to examine temporal and geographical metabolites important in protecting plants from pests and pathogens in sustainable agricultural systems. It is often used in combination with mass spectrometry to identify small molecules present in biological samples such as bodily fluids, tissues, environmental samples, and biofilms. Principal component analysis is used to determine critical differences in metabolite composition from one treatment/condition as compared to a non-treated control. We are working to discover compounds present in organs/tissues and agricultural soils that are indicators of normal and diseased states in living systems. This knowledge is useful in the determination of biomarkers and novel antimicrobials for biomedical research, clinic applications, precision agriculture applications, and industrial purposes.Â
