The Library at home

When at the mercy of living in lockdown it’s hard to find a safe, quiet space to read and concentrate. The Home Library Project looks to create comforting spaces to facilitate reading and immersion while facing challenges within the user’s environment. Just select a book of your choice to be posted to your home and select a "book buddy" character and environment to accompany your reading. The soundscapes range from garden settings to bustling city sounds in the rain.
The Home Library immerses the user in a comforting environment. The Illustrated gifs include small amounts of movement as to allow the reader to be immersed, but not distracted. While the warm character designs allow the user to feel a comforting presence in an otherwise lonely and isolating time.
The project also seeks to recapture the tactility of the book in a time when touch is made minimum. The user is able to loan the book from the website provided while the library card included helps the user record and review the previous books read. The pre-paid parcel then allows the book to be posted back to the Library in typical library fashion, regaining the ritualistic and almost romantic space of the traditional library all in a home environment.
