Hi, I'm Aleigha. I work as a doula, educator, and creative based in Southeast Pennsylvania.
I began researching maternal mortality in 2019 while I was earning my bachelor's in International Relations and Political Science. After that, I began researching and writing about violence against black transgender women. Diving into both of these topics and writing about them allowed me to understand, on an intellectual level, so many of the things I was experiencing as a black queer femme. The pandemic came shortly after, with a subsequent rise in bigotry and fascism rising right alongside it. Living and learning through all of that made me understand how deeply important reproductive justice is for my own freedom and for those just like me.
I began working as a doula for the Maternity Care Coalition after completing their training in 2023. Since then I have worked with several families as they navigated bringing a new life into the world. I also began to create content that helped educate people on different issues surrounding reproductive justice.
