Nature Journaling Series

Explore and record the world around you through our Nature Journaling series with Ashley Bozman. All workshops are FREE with registration, and all the art supplies you need for each session will be provided! Check out the registration site for more information about what to bring to each location to make your time more comfortable

Nature Journaling Location Considerations:

Robinson Quarry Park- Located on Old Wagon Road in Sandstone: Please bring sturdy shoes, protective clothing, a full water bottle, and bug spray are encouraged for the Robinson Quarry Park hikes. We will be exploring the new trails, and will journey where out group feels confident. We will stop several times to journal, and artists may benefit from bringing something to sit on. There will be a pit toilet available at the beginning and end of the hike.

Sandstone Community Garden- Located in front of the Sandstone Post Office: 514 Main Street, Sandstone: Please bring a full water bottle, sun protection, and something to sit on. There are stone benches available. There are no bathrooms available on site

210 Gallery and Art Center- 210 Commercial Ave N, Sandstone- Come dressed to be in the weather, though we will work both inside and outside.

Natural Dye Workshop

Sunday, July 5th, 2026| 210 Gallery and Art Center | 12:00-3:00 | Cost: FREE! Pre-Registration Required | Class Size Limit: 8 people

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Design your own silk bandana with natural dyes! Over the course of the class, we will discuss the basics of natural dyeing, including fiber selection, natural materials, modifiers, and a few different techniques for making your very own dyed bandana!

Workshop participants do not need any previous dying experience to join, and those with experience will be welcome to contribute their knowledge!

Come prepared with clothes you are ok getting stained.

Natural Watercolor Making Workshop

Saturday, July 11th, 2026| Duluth Folk School, Duluth, MN | 12:30-4:30 | Cost: $85+ (Registration required and will close 1 week prior to event) | Class Size Limit: 10 people

During this class we will dive the process of creating natural watercolors from plant to palette! Pigment is all around us, and we will explore the process of "laking" for pigments made from organic matter, as well as creating earth pigments from inorganic materials. Expect this session to be packed with information, and any folks who have information and experience to add to the knowledge pool are welcome to do so. All supplies and materials will be provided.

All "dabblers" will leave with at least one pan of handmade watercolor. All will have the opportunity to purchase ready made watercolor palettes foraged for and created by the instructor, as well as other reference materials.
