On 28 February 1829, Faria dies. Dants takes Faria's body to his cell and takes its place in the burial sack. When he is thrown into the sea, Dants cuts through the sack and swims to a nearby island, where he is rescued by Genoese smugglers. Some months later, he locates and retrieves the treasure; he later purchases the island of Monte Cristo and the title of count from the Tuscan government.

In Rome, at Carnival time, Dants befriends Viscount Albert de Morcerf, the son of Mercds and Fernand. He arranges for Albert to be captured by the bandit Luigi Vampa, and "rescues" the boy, earning his trust. Albert introduces the Count to Parisian high society. Mercds, seeing Dants for the first time in 23 years, is the only one to recognize him, but does not reveal his identity.

As a result of the Count's financial manipulations, Danglars is left with a ruined reputation and 5,000,000 francs he has been holding in deposit for hospitals. The Count demands this sum to fulfill their credit agreement, and Danglars embezzles the hospital fund. He flees to Italy with the Count's receipt for the cash and 50,000 francs of his own, and is reimbursed the 5,000,000 francs from the Count's own bank account. While leaving Rome, he is kidnapped by Luigi Vampa. The bandits extort Danglars' ill-gotten gains out of him by forcing him to pay exorbitant prices for food and water; Dants anonymously returns the money to the hospitals. Danglars finally repents his crimes, and a softened Dants forgives him and allows him to depart with his 50,000 francs.

Fantasy novelist Steven Brust's Khaavren Romances series have all used Dumas novels (particularly the Three Musketeers series) as their chief inspiration, recasting the plots of those novels to fit within Brust's established world of Dragaera.[25] His 2020 novel The Baron of Magister Valley follows suit, using The Count of Monte Cristo as a starting point.[26][27] Jin Yong has admitted some influence from Dumas, his favorite non-Chinese novelist.[28] Some commentators feel that the plot of A Deadly Secret resembles The Count of Monte Cristo, except that they are based in different countries and historical periods.

I could sit and tell you about each of these characters if you wanted to know. I loved being in the 1800s with the count, loved the world that he lived in with its political twists and hidden agendas. I loved the count, his personality, and his development. He had so much knowledge and wisdom and he was compassionate and kind to those he recognized as having loved him and brutal to those who destroyed his life. When the ones he cared about might be hurt by his revenge, he had some decisions to make and his chain of thought is admirable.

Whenever possible, I recommend buying books at local bookshops or through Bookshop.org, because shopping there puts the profits right into the hands of indie bookstores all over the country.

The placards inside are written in both French and English, but there are also free pamphlets in many more languages giving information about the prison and its literary history, so grab one as you leave the ticket counter.

a wonderful show, the venue is in a convenient location as it is close to Princes St, but is a bit hidden away. A gem of a location - fairly priced drinks and polite service

I very much enjoyed Revenge, the show was entirely sung through and there wasn't a missed note in the whole production

A special part of the show is the ending sword fighting scene with the count and his nemesis fernando the movement was extremely clean and im very impressed with the two gentleman managing to sing so highly and clearly while doing an intense fight

As a chef, have prepared this more times than I can count. I like that you grill is, its how its made. No Monte Cristo sandwich is prepared with mayo or mustard, and no jam either. Its served with powdered sugar and maple syrup.

He was kidnapped in Rome by Luigi Vampa's men after a Girl led him into the sewers, and was rescued by the Count of Monte Cristo. They both became friends, and he had breakfast over Monte Cristo's Estate, and invited him to his Birthday, where Monte Cristo met Count and Countess Mondengo. He later dueled Monte Cristo when he backed Count Mondengo against a wall, who was revealed as Edmond Dantes by Mercedes. Mercedes also revealed Edmond's Fathership over Albert, and after Mondengo was killed, Albert, Jacopo, Mercedes, and Edmond lived a happy life in a different country.
