For students that are learning the fundamentals of communication, The Communication Machine uses a developmental assessment, the Communication Matrix, and a qualitative assessment, the Pragmatics profile. 

To anchor these two assessments within a broader perspective of the students, not only looking at communication but at cognitive development and how it interacts with the acquisition of communication skills, we use Routes for Learning (RfL).
