To reflect sound intensity or volume changes, we use a group of symbols called dynamic markings.
Para reflejar la intensidad de un sonido o los cambios de volumen usamos un grupo de símbolos llamados matices.Dynamic markings are placed below the staff and can be expressed in three different ways: letters, terms and hairpins.
Los matices se colocan debajo del pentagrama y pueden ser representados con letras, términos y reguladores.LETTERS: these are indicators of fixed intensity and therefore, they maintain the corresponding volume until another different marking apperars.
TERMS: These are indicators of progressive or gradual intensity. That is, the volume of sound varies gradually from loud to soft, or from soft to loud. The most common terms are: crescendo (cresc.): gradually increasing intensity. Decrescendo (decresc.) or diminuendo (dim.): gradually decreasing intensity.
HARPINS: These are some V-shaped symbols which, just like dynamic terms, represent a gradual or progressive intensity change.
