What is the third sector?
The third sector is made up of charities, voluntary organisations, and community groups working to improve people’s lives. Unlike private businesses, these organisations don’t exist to make profit - they exist to serve communities, tackle inequality, and create social change.
Who is the Black Third Sector for?
The Black Third Sector is for:
Black people who are currently working, or previously worked, in charities, social enterprises, voluntary organisations, or adjacent
Black leaders and founders of third sector organisations operating in the UK
Black professionals interested in entering, progressing or creating within the sector

Hey ally! The Black Third Sector is a Black-centred space, however, we would love to hear from other ethnic minorities and allies within the space, so do sign up to our mailing list. Some events or reports in the future may be open to wider audiences, but core community spaces are prioritised for Black professionals at the moment.
Our focus is on community-building, shared insight, and strengthening Black representation and leadership in the sector. We may engage in advocacy informed by lived experience, but we are not necessarily party-political.
No - it is completely free. We want to build an accessible community for Black professionals.
In the near future, we aim to develop structured mentoring and leadership support as the community grows and needs/desires are highlighted. The more professionals that know about the Black Third Sector, the better the support!
