This final assessment represents the culmination of the knowledge and skills developed throughout the semester in ARCH2360. The project involves revisiting my previous Design Studio project, the Eco Recreational Centre, and critically re-evaluating it through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), reflective thinking, and professional architectural judgement.
The purpose of this assessment is to explore how AI can support architectural design processes, particularly in concept development, site analysis, spatial organisation, and visual communication. The original Eco Recreational Centre design is re-examined and refined using AI-assisted workflows to improve aspects such as sustainability, user experience, circulation, and environmental responsiveness.
Through this process, the project demonstrates how AI can act as a supportive design tool that expands creative possibilities while enhancing design exploration and efficiency. At the same time, the assessment emphasises the importance of human decision-making in evaluating AI-generated outputs to ensure that the final design remains contextual, practical, and meaningful.
Overall, this project reflects the integration of AI into architectural thinking, showing how technology and human creativity can work together to produce a more developed and refined design outcome.
BRIEF OF COMMUNITY ECO- RECREATIONAL CENTRE at Sungai Merab
Project Name: Community ECO- Recreational Centre
Brief Summary of Project
This project involves the design of a Community Eco-Recreational Centre under ARCH2360 Architectural Design IV.
The building serves as a public community facility that supports:
Recreation activities
Social interaction
Community engagement
Educational and cultural use
The design must integrate a mix of functional spaces, including:
Indoor recreational areas (activity / multipurpose rooms)
Community spaces (meeting / event / flexible halls)
Administrative facilities (office, reception)
Support spaces (toilets, pantry, services)
Outdoor recreational and landscape areas (gardens, walkways, viewing decks)
The total built-up area is limited to 240m² (2-storey maximum).
The project emphasises eco-friendly and sustainable design strategies, including:
Passive design (orientation, shading, ventilation)
Climate-responsive architecture
Integration with natural site conditionski
Energy and environmental awareness
Students are required to conduct:
Precedent studies (reference projects)
Site analysis (context, access, environment, circulation)
The design process focuses on:
Spatial organisation and functionality
User experience and accessibility
Environmental responsiveness
Architectural composition and visual quality
