History of Thai Consortium Laparoscopic Colectomy Skill Quality Improvement Program 

       The Thai Consortium Laparoscopic Colectomy Skill Quality Improvement Program was established in 2024 upon the initiative of the committee of the Thai Society of Colorectal Surgeons, in collaboration with senior surgeons from the Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons of Thailand who have a special interest in laparoscopic colectomy. The program is supported by the Mekong Endo-Surgery Development Association (MESDA).

       The Consortium aims to operate and drive the Laparoscopic Colectomy Skill Quality Improvement Program towards achieving its established goals. This quality improvement program is modeled after the Endoscopic Surgical Skill Qualification System (ESSQS) of the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery (JSES). The Consortium's committee has adapted the video scoring method to suit the context of Thai surgeons and opened submissions for surgical videos for the first time in 2024.

       The operational model of this quality improvement program involves inviting surgeons who have completed their residency training in Colorectal Surgery or Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) within the past 10 years to submit an unedited video of surgery performed on a patient with sigmoid colon, rectosigmoid colon, or upper rectal cancer undergoing sigmoidectomy or high anterior resection. These videos are submitted to the committee for review and quality assessment of the surgical procedure. Following the evaluation, the committee provides feedback to the applicants. This feedback is intended to be beneficial for the further development of individual surgeons' skills and techniques, ultimately leading to the highest benefit for colorectal cancer patients.
