Defending space refers to where you go between striking the ball in order to ensure you can return the ball into play and then set-up to keep the ball in play and then, if possible, to set-up an attack by sending the ball into a space to make the opponent move, or attack a space.
Key off-the-ball movements can be taught using the Game Performance Inventory Assessment (GPAI) form to note peer's off-the-ball movements.
Recovery refers to moving to a home base at the back of the court or at the Kitchen line.
Read refers to decision making movements based on you shot played and opponent's response - moving forward it anticipate a short ball, back to defend or neutral if opponent keep ball in pressing area.
Respond refers to doing a cover, jump-step, to put body in motion as the opponent strikes the ball.
React is movements to adjust to incoming ball, to set-up into a ideal situation to make impact with the ball.
