More sources to come as I finalize my research and paper!
An Annotated Bibliography of Electric Vehicle Research
This article argues for the support of electric vehicles and why they are necessary to help stop pollution and climate change using various studies and other sources of facts and statistics. This is an academic and fact based article, however, it may have some bias in that it is arguing for the effectiveness and need for electric vehicles. I will cite it in overview sections of my article when introducing the two sides, electric vs. gasoline power.
2. Comparison of Lifecycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Various Electricity Generation Sources. Rep. World Nuclear Association, July 2011. Web. 10 Mar. 2017.
This article evaluates effects of gathering and using different energy sources for the electric power grid. It is academic and reliable, however, it may come with a slight bias toward nuclear energy. I will be using it in my evaluation of using the New England electricity grid based off of the primary energy sources used by the New England grid.
3. EGRID2014v2. Rep. Washington D.C.: EPA, 2014. Print.
This is a report of various charts reporting usage of different types of energy sources across the country as well as the pollutants created from each energy sources conversion to electricity. This does not appear to have any bias because it is just reporting and is by a the EPA. I will use this to evaluate and average costs and environmental effects for electric vehicles that run strictly off of grid produced electricity.
4. "Environmental Impacts of Natural Gas." Union of Concerned Scientists. Union of Concerned Scientists, 2013. Web. 10 Mar. 2017.
This is an article that describes the natural gas harvesting process and conversion to electricity and the effects that it has on the environment. I will use it to average its pollutant statistics with the other major electricity sources for New England when estimating the effects of running an electric vehicle off of the New England Electricity grid.
5. "Greenhouse Gas Emissions Avoided through Use of Nuclear Energy." Greenhouse Gas Emissions Avoided through Use of Nuclear Generation - World Nuclear Association. World Nuclear, 2016. Web. 10 Mar. 2017.
This is an article about the production of electricity through nuclear power plants. It appears factual though may be missing some of the hazards or downsides of producing electricity in nuclear power plants because it is from the WNA. I will use it when averaging the pollutant statistics of New England’s electricity grid because it is 31 percent of the NE grid.
6. "Greenhouse Gas Emissions from a Typical Passenger Vehicle." EPA. Environmental Protection Agency, 21 Nov. 2016. Web. 10 Mar. 2017.
This is an article that has statistics about typical passenger cars, and production of different pollutants when burning one gallon of gasoline or going one mile in the average passenger vehicle. This appears unbiased. I will use it in the gasoline vehicle section of my paper when describing gasoline powered vehicle’s effects.
7. Mom, Gijs. The Electric Vehicle: Technology and Expectations in the Automobile Age. Baltimore, MD: Johns Hopkins UP, 2013. Print.
This is a book about the history of electric vehicles and the struggles they have faced in attempts at implementation in society. I will use these facts in the background of the issue in my paper and possibly in a section about solutions to making electric vehicles more superior to other vehicles.
8. Newman, Daniel, et al. "Learning from electric cars as socio-technical mobility experiments where next?" Transfers, vol. 4, no. 2, 2014, p. 23+. Academic OneFile, Accessed 10 Mar. 2017.
This report studies the struggles of electric vehicle implementation and provides some solutions and identification of the problem. It appears unbiased. I will use it to outline the electric vs. gasoline vehicle situation and write sections if electric vehicles are limited by society or actual technological limitations, helping to determine whether electric or gas is in fact better.
9. "Resource Mix." Resource Mix. ISO New England, Jan. 2017. Web. 10 Mar. 2017.
This is a report on the electric grid of New England and how prominent different sources of harvesting electricity are. The report has data that I use on the resources of the New England Grid, detailing which processes are mainly used and therefore used by an electric Vehicle driver in New England.
10. "Sources of Greenhouse Gas Emissions." EPA. Environmental Protection Agency, 14 Feb. 2017. Web. 10 Mar. 2017.
This Article is about general greenhouse gas emissions. It is unbiased and from the EPA. I will use its sections on the electricity emissions and and transportation emissions to determine electric and gasoline powered vehicle effects and the overall power system effects, significance of it and climate change.
11. Vogel, Carl. Build Your Own Electric Motorcycle. New York: McGraw Hill, 2009. Print.
This is a book that in part outlines why a person should drive an electric vehicle, an electric motorcycle in particular. It is fact based though it does support electric vehicles greatly so it may have a slight bias. I will use its sections on different battery’s effects on the environment since the production and disposal of the batteries is a main argument against electric vehicles.
12. "What Car Emissions Are Being Tested?" Car Emissions Testing Facts. ACEA, n.d. Web. 10 Mar. 2017.
This is a website about different emissions from cars, how they are produced and how harmful they are. This appears unbiased. I will use it when evaluating gas vehicles in the gas focused portion of my paper.
13. Zehner, Posted 30 Jun 2013 | 14:00 GMT, Ozzie. "Unclean at Any Speed." IEEE Spectrum: Technology, Engineering, and Science News. IEEE, 30 June 2013. Web. 10 Mar. 2017.
This is an article against electric vehicles and their ineffectiveness at preventing pollution. It seems fact based though it is arguing for one side so it may have a slight bias. I will use it when describing the anti electric vehicle argument and make sure that my paper does not have a bias in it or at least has little bias as possible.
