The Franklin Institute 2021 Virtual Youth Climate Summit will meet over 4 days:

April 6, 7, 13: Educational Workshops

  • Educational Workshops led by scientists, environmental justice activists, youth advocates and more will showcase climate solutions and inspire action! Learn more about the impacts of climate change in your community and what you can do about it.

  • All workshops run 6:00-7:30 pm.

  • All student & teacher participants welcome.

  • Confirmed workshops:

    • Climate Change Science: The Basics with Dr. Rachel Valletta (Franklin Institute)

    • Community Leadership in Climate Resiliency with Cheyenne Flores (Philadelphia Office of Sustainability)

    • Climate Change, Air Pollution, & Your Health with Russ Zerbo (Clean Air Council) and Stasia Montero (HACE CDC)

    • Solar in Schools with Liz Robinson (Philadelphia Solar Energy Authority) and Cleo Anukam (Solar States)

April 7: Educator-only Workshop

  • What does successful climate action look like? How can educators best support student-led projects? This two-hour session will help educators envision successful climate action and develop strategies to support students in this process.

  • Workshop runs 6:00-8:00 pm.

  • This session is for educators only.

  • Facilitated by:

    • Ellen Schultz (Fairmount Water Works)

    • Joanna Bottaro and Lisa Hantman (formerly School District of Philadelphia)

April 14: Action Planning Workshop

  • Attend the Action Planning Workshop with your entire team and create a climate action plan for your school. We'll walk you through how to build a plan, you'll provide the ideas!

  • ALL team members must attend at least 2 of the 3 Educational Workshops to attend the final Action Planning Workshop.

  • All student & educator participants are encouraged to join with their team.
