Accomplishments

In my years as a manga artist and animator, there have been numerous successful moments and achievements in my life. Here are just some:

  • Over 700 manga titles and 150 000 pages written

    • Some of my most famous works include Astro Boy, Pheonix, and Black Jack. I loved Pheonix so much that I continued the story for my whole life.

  • Founded Mushi Production

    • After my contract with Toei Animation expired in 1961, I made my entrance into the animation industry by creating Mushi Production. Eventually, it went bankrupt, but that didn't stop me on my journey. In fact, the members of Mushi Production went on to produce many other animation studios after.

  • Founded Tezuka Productions

    • In 1968, shortly before Mushi Production collapsed, I founded an animation studio called Tezuka Productions. The company was quite successful, and I used it to animate my newer manga, as well as remaking some of my old ones. Interestingly, I was also able to use it to digitalize all of my existing manga series in color so that they could be more easily accessible.

  • New techniques introduced to the industry

    • I created the idea of the "star system." In it, I carry over some of the same characters between different series. For example, the character Osamu Tezuka can be seen in many of my different manga. Nowadays, the star system has become a very common practice in Hollywood.

    • I was the first to use very large eyes in his animations, which led to a whole new style that is well-known today in Japanese animation.
