About

Rock For a Cure

Rock-A-Thon was created at University of Missouri in 1969 and has since then become an AEPi tradition across the country. On April 30th, 2016 at 12am, we kicked off our very first event at UT. After countless hours spent rocking and canning across Austin, we raised over $3,000 for the American Cancer Society. After the success of this event, we knew that we wanted to continue with a focus on fundraising and advocating for cancer research. Cancer has sadly affected us all in some way, shape, or form, and we wanted to do something about it. In response, we partnered with the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, an organization which works to combat childhood cancer through research, family support, and awareness.

At the beginning of the school year, our brothers elect one representative from our chapter to rock back and forth for 24 hours straight. This is considered a huge honor for a graduating senior and by the fraternity at large. During the day, we have food, live music, random giveaways, speakers from the B+ Foundation, and so many more fun activities. True to our roots in the state of Texas, we have ended each of our Rock-A-Thons with a Two-step dance party. This features country music played by local bands, cowboy boots, and dancing. Furthermore, we try our best to bring the entire UT community together for the event. In order to incorporate the greek community, we host a photo contest between UT sororities and invite them to rock on the stage with our rocker. Additionally, we work with local businesses to sponsor our event by advertising their company in exchange for rocking chairs, food, gift cards, and financial donations.

In 2017, we hosted two Rock-A-Thon events, one in the spring and the other in the fall. Within this year, we raised over $15,000 for the B+ Foundation! On November 14-15, 2018 on UT's West Mall, we will hosted our Fourth Annual Rock-A-Thon. and raised over $10,000 Please support us in out efforts to raise $15,000 for this incredible organization! See you all there and Rock On #hornsupFTK.
