I'd never seen a young populous cluster (YPC) before. They exist in the LMC, are much bluer than traditional globular clusters, and apparently are not as old either.
Local Galaxy Group & Neighborhood Observing Program
Southern Sky LGG Challenge
The LGG & GN Manual mentions observing 45 of the bright objects in the SMC and LMC to complete the Southern Sky LGG Challenge. Section 2.3 lists 39 bright objects in the LMC and section 2.4 lists 14 bright objects in the SMC. I've chosen to image all 53 because I don't want to miss anything. -
All mages were taken with Slooh telescopes and in most cases (51/53) Chile One with a FOV of 31x21 arcminutes and 0.47 arcsec/pixel scale. The scope was chosen because almost all the targets are small...5 arcminutes. Chile One has the smallest FOV of all the Southern Hemisphere scopes. The other two images were taken with Chile Two with a FOV of 43x43 arcminutes and 0.63 arcsec/pixel scale.
See the Slooh Scope Information tab above or click here for more information on Slooh locations, other scopes, presets, and weather/sky condition descriptions.
Image formats and post processing:
Slooh saves images in two formats: fits and jpgs. Slooh calibrates, stacks, and adjusts gamma based on preset prior to saving the image as a jpg. Fits are calibrated, saved but not stacked. I used Slooh's Multi Luminance 50-sec preset for all targets. This preset gives multiple (usually 3) 50 second luminance filter images with 2x2 binning.
The images were post processed with levels, curves and Astronomy Tools with my old version of PhotoShop to bring out more detail. I used Noise Ninja to reduce noise. My PhotoShop skills are limited.
In all images below North is Up and East is to the Left.
Note: I've very red/green colorblind so I've chosen to display the B/W luminance channel for the images below.
