Northern ARP Peculiar Galaxies Observing Program certificate number 104-I
To find other galaxies in the images below I set SkySafari Pro 6.0 to display DSOs brighter than magnitude 15.3. Dimmer galaxies not appearing in the image were not identified.
The entries below are sorted in RA order.
All images were taken with Slooh telescopes and in most cases (87/106) Chile One with a FOV of 31x21 arcminutes and 0.47 arcsec/pixel scale (before binning). Chile One has the smallest FOV of all the Southern Hemisphere scopes and was chosen because many of the targets are small...5 arcminutes or less. The other nineteen images were taken with Canary One with a FOV of 37x37 arcminutes and 0.717 arcsec/pixel scale (before binning). The Canary One images can easily be identified below because they are square.
Image formats and post processing:
Slooh saves images in two formats: fits and jpgs. Slooh calibrates, stacks, and adjusts gamma based on preset prior to saving the image as a jpg. Fits are calibrated, saved but not stacked. I used Slooh's jpgs whenever possible. I used Slooh's Multi Luminance 50-sec preset for all targets. This preset gives multiple (usually 3) 50 second monochrome luminance filter images with 2x2 binning. The 50 second exposure gets me down to about magnitude 15 depending on nightly conditions (Moon, light clouds). In most cases dimmer companions are not detected.
The images were post processed with levels, curves, dodging/burning, and Astronomy Tools with my old version of PhotoShop to bring out more detail. I used Noise Ninja to reduce noise. My PhotoShop skills are limited.
In all images below North is Up and East is to the Left.
See the bottom of the page for how I obtained the Arp Catagories and Notes for the entries.

The best Internet source for information about the Arp-Madore catalog is the CATALOGUE OF SOUTHERN PECULIAR GALAXIES AND ASSOCIATIONS. Among other things the website has twenty-four ASCII text file that break the over eight thousand eight hundred Arp-Madore members into separate Arp catagories (no file for Catagory 21: Stellar objects with associated nebulosity ). In these text files each Arp-Madore entry is given two lines similar to the entry below:
AM 0015-340 00 15 34 ( 3.011) 347.62 (261.5) RINGED SPIRAL + COMP'NS. S = 8.1 MIN. 8, , , -34 09.2 ( 0.333) -80.14 ( -1.3) 350-G-7 F350/J2633: (X=273,Y=224)
There is a key describing the file's contents. The data is in seven columns and contains the Arp-Madore name, RA, Notes, Size, Arp Class(s), Dec, other catalogs the object is in, the galactic and supergalactic latitude/longitude, the plate number and location the data was from. Much of the information isn't needed (underlined above is good).
I combined the two lines into one and all twenty-four files into a single file with 8816 lines. I then wrote a small program that searched the entire AM Catalog for the five hundred AM objects in the AL's Program and wrote the matches to a new text file. I then imported the new file into Excel with Fixed Width so I could control the columns for the needed information. I cleaned up some duplication caused by the AL's NED entries and was finished.
A link to the final spreadsheet is here. The new columns (Arp-Madore# for verification with existing AM#, Notes, and Arp Categories) are marked at the top as imported.
I didn't attempt (yet) to include subcategories (#1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 10). I think with some copy/paste, Word/Excel work it should be possible. I'll take a look at it when I get some time.
Hmmmm.... at first glance this isn't going to work out. The only source for the subcatagories are the listings from the left margin. They don't seem to have enough entries for the 500 AM#s...lots missing... including 3/4 of the first ones.
IC 4720 is above the target and to the right. IC 4720A is below the target.
