In October 2024, I was able to plan our technology PD day along side our director of technology. We put together sessions that trained staff to use the various Apple tools that we have as well as how to use AI in their professional day.
I was also able to present for one of the session. I have been very passionate about AI for quite some time, searching out my own training, and practicing using various tools. My Why: AI is not going to go away, we are seeing it more and more in our every day and educational worlds, we can't ignore it. My Goal: If "you" can become more comfortable using AI then you will be more comfortable mentoring and teaching our students to use it correctly. And they WILL need to know how to use it correctly.
During the 2022-2023 school year, our educational approach underwent significant adjustments to align with evolving state standards and cater to our students' educational needs.
Specifically, we restructured the science curriculum, introducing Earth Science and Engineering for 9th graders while mandating Physical Science for 8th graders. As an integral part of the 9th-grade teaching team, I played a leading role in the new curriculum development, planning, and integration.
Navigating the inclusion of Earth Science at the high school level posed a unique challenge due to the scarcity of readily available teaching materials and curriculum. Moreover, the incorporation of the engineering component added complexity to assessing students' comprehension and application of concepts.
Within this portfolio section, you'll discover my meticulously crafted scope and sequence, outlining the curriculum plan. Additionally, explore a selection of artifacts from the Artemis Unit—such as a storyboard, presentation, storyboard, and video instructions—spotlighting one of our comprehensive unit projects.
In 2021-22, our school invested in Canva, a graphic design tool. To the left is the presentation I created and used to deliver a staff training segment. The goal of my presentation was to introduce how Canva can EASILY be used in the classroom by both staff and students. I highlighted specific features of Canva to save staff time and ways they could get students to create high-quality projects. Listening to the needs of our staff, taken by a staff poll before the session, the training was very hands-on, inviting teachers to make a deliverable they could use in class the following week and allotted time to collaborate and plan within their teams.
Working a long side administration, I helped create, initiate, and maintain our school wide Connection Program. This work was research heavy, focusing on developmentally appropriate programming, as well as the creation of easy deliverables for staff to utilize on the fly. Attached you find a very raw plan of how we organized our program.
I created this artifact in the 2022-2023 school year to showcase the data that was used to make improvements to our science curriculum. You will see how data was utilized, along with explanations of how this information was leveraged to enhance our course curriculum. This was presented to school administrators during our mid-year all-staff meeting, serving as a testament to the professionalism exhibited by our teaching staff.
Something that I am passionate about is finding sustainable solutions. I want to create things that are lasting, meaningful, and helpful. Right now, that looks like creating an outline that I or my students can use that provides an easily accessible and understandable process.
The results:
Long-term cost and time saving
Positive environmental impact
Enhanced reputation
Innovation and adaptability
