As occupational therapy assistant students, we created the “Sensory Spruce” tree to auction off to support sensory-friendly programs and inclusive environments for individuals with sensory processing needs in our community.
For many individuals with sensory processing challenges, holiday events—while exciting—can sometimes feel overwhelming. Bright lights, loud sounds, and bustling crowds often make it hard for them to fully enjoy these special celebrations. To make the holiday season more comfortable and accessible, our team designed the “Sensory Spruce” tree.
This tree is packed with sensory-friendly elements: touchable, textured ornaments, calming lights, soft sounds, and soothing scents, all chosen to provide a fun, engaging, and relaxing holiday experience. Each decoration is meant to offer a gentle, interactive experience, helping individuals feel comfortable and connected to the holiday spirit in a way that feels just right for them.
